    For the love of the game?!

    Hi

    Enough of swing advice etc, my thread is simple to find out how many people have hung up their clubs for a while during a bad spell or just considered giving up the game through pure frustration!

    I can normally hit the ball fine at the range but on the course do not score as per my range shots would suggest (I have had people say look at that guy he plays off single figures - yes - once or twice but not consistently!).

    So - having hit a bad round and going to the range then going to the range, I realised I am pretty much back where I started! I am seriously considering packing it in, speading more time with the kids and finding a new past time.

    Has anyone else been there? I gave up for ten years (due to no longer being at uni and living in Surrey the cost was just too much!) but that was not through choice.

    for one , you absolutely love the game, i can tell. I had no idea that you had any swing issues , certainly not any that would make you consider giving up.
    Give me and your friends on this site a chance , and give youself another chance . i gaurantee 100% that we can help you.

      Spending time with the family is a wonderful thing. Sounds like you know how to play. Why not take the kids out for a round? You don't have to commit to a traditional 18 holes of golf. Find a nice place to putt and chip with the Fam. The desire will come back.. Don't quit!!!

        You are experiencing what a lot of us go through and no doubt will again. You know you can do it but it is at the course where your problem is. Change your mental approach. Go to the course as if you were going to the practice range. Forget scores, concentrate on hitting the ball as if you wer at the range. It is tension and negative thinking that puts us in this position. Go and enjoy, not endure. Eventually when your confidence builds the scores will come themselves

          Some times it is best to put the clubs away. I'm not saying permantly. Take a couple weeks off, relax.

            Thanks everyone.

            I am going to the course with a mate next week who is a well respected PGA professional and he has promised to take a look at where my swing has fallen down and the reasons why I am not scoring as well as expected on the course.

            In the meantime I am taking a week to relax and come back fresh!
