  • Looking for tips on weight transference

I've always been a bit of a left knee slider but lately I just don't feel comfortable of level leading through the ball - I think I'm snatching at the top a little.

I think my knees are level throughout the swing and I don't think there's any popping up movement. I guess it's kind of hard to see what you're actually doing to yourself rather than watching someone elses swing.

I think a smooth transaction into the throughswing is one of the most important elements in the golf swing so I'm trying to get back the correct feeling of intitiating this movement. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks

    transition tips

    Paul,

I have a few tips to smooth the top out. The one thing to remember, on the backswing the upper body coils the lower body into position The lower body uncoils the upper body in the downswing.

The thing I see over and over is an improper pivot. If you are a slider (sliding the left hip past laterally straight on the downswing) you have also changed point in which the clubhead will contact the ball. A compensating move in your swing has probably happened. If you could post a video, I could probably trace it back to your setup or takeaway. About 75% of problems can be cured there. The other 25% is the transition from back to through swing. I have a very good program called cSwing that helps me analyze swings. I am presently rebuilding my computer and will have the tool loaded shortly.

TIP: Seeing your swing yourself on the range will speed your progress. In the US at auto part stores they stock convex mirrors. Get the largest one you can and see your self. Draw a maker line on the mirror down the center. Put the ball on that mark when taking your stance. Ensure your head doesn't pass the line before impact. This will not only help your sliding, your transition will smooth out. You will start to feel your shoulders rotate.

TIP 2: Place a golfball under your right foot and swing. This will help you get in the correct position on the downswing. Remember right toe down, and show your spikes at the finish.

Thanks Golfbold I'll give your drills a try. I think the problem is I have not played or actually swung a club in practice for about 3 weeks. I hit the balls fairly reasonably the last time I went out but you instinctively know if something isn't right.

        Foot spinning out

Hope you dont mind me posting a reply here Golfbald.

If pgmetcalf and your goodself could check out the left foot analysis, I placed on the forum it might also help the weight transference.

If I am wrong then please forgive me.

          Cliff,

No need to apologize, were all freinds here that share the love and passion for the game. Post what you like, there are alot of members who just read, some like yourself who post. We all help each other. That's what this forum is about.

I teach but I also learn from those I teach. I keep a database of drills, DIVX videos from TV and other sources. I have a wealth of knowledge stored on the game. I do research and test products for companies. I use the posts to get some fresh insights to problems and solutions. I research swing problems and try to duplicate them then make the database better by using the imput I get. I am a student of he game, it's my only hobby.

          Best regards,

          GolfBald

That’s nice to hear. I myself have enjoyed golf for the past15 years, playing cricket for 20 years prior to that; I wish I had taken up golf a lot earlier, but that the way it goes. I have achieved a handicap of 1.7 and am now 49; I would love to reach the magic scratch level before my 50th next February, we will see!!

I have also made a video collection of my favourite players, something that I could relate to when practicing and playing on the course.

I have never had a lesson in the art of golf but continue with my own style of play, you could say it’s a bit unique, but the basics and fundamentals must be part of any golfers swing. When you see A Darcy against Tiger Woods you would think that they are playing different games, but the truth is the good players impact the ball with pure timing and precision. And what went on before the impact is neither here nor there you could say.

I have played many sports so my wife says haha, and I suppose have some sort of natural ability in timing and balance, this has no doubt helped me play this great game of golf, I think the most important lesson I have ever learned is try to hit the ball with 75 percent of your power not 120 percent, this gives you the opportunity to find those golf planes/retention of angles etc.

And if you’re real lucky you can watch the ball through impact and squeeze it off the turf. This is what I have witnessed and is such a great feeling and feedback to your brain.

I have experience in work as a trained engineer and toolmaker, and enjoy developing products to help produce a good impact; maybe we could discuss the pros and cons of my latest invention sometime.

            Regards Cliff

PS Each player finds different methods to produce what he or she finds will work for them, I am sure given the opportunity of seeing and working with a teaching pro I would have achieved my goal by now. How knows!! But I cant roll back the clock of time.

And I've got that silky-smooth initiation of the throughswing back too so a crate of beer all round I think. Mind you I put in a lot of practice the last couple of days. At it's worst, I shot 48 for 9 holes which included 2 birdies. Kinda weird how it works out playing like that, especially as the ball flight didn't deteriorate that much.

The problem for me was my right leg was straightening slightly more on the backswing rather than keeping the same angle. I reckon the knee was rising to about 2 cm above what it is used to. This put me out at the top and though it doesn't sound a lot, believe me it is in the golf world.

It’s quite possible that you may be bending the knee too much prior to take away!!

Set up note. When you are ready to make your move/takeaway just check your bend in the right knee!! You should see at least half of your right foot sticking out past the knee joint.

Any quick tips on my weight transference problems.
I'd like to move about 5 KG from my Beer belly and transfer it elsewhere.
Was watching Darren Clarke last night and he has an impressive belly..does he have to adjust his swing or just turn that belly quickly?

Think of timing m8. Not movement.

And what the large ladies have to put up with!!

On the positive side you will play well when the winds blow?

The left foot theory might have some bearing on you question go look in recent forum pages.
