I would never play a round with them. i use them for chipping into the the wifes washing machine, i would never use my pinnacles

I would say its stealing. And on top of it, he lost them so now he can't return them, so he should pay for the balls. Why can't he use and lose his own balls? And if everybody takes range balls what the hell am I going to use at the range?

One thing i do notice a lot when im on the range, is the number of titleist, pinnacle, top flight, callaway, and maxfli balls that end up in my basket. Usually they are in perfect condition. Why do people hit their own balls on the range?, it's not as if they can get them back and they will just end up in somebody else's golf bag.......madness.

As for the non range variety of ball showing up in the range ball dispenser, that happens at my home course all the time. Not much of a mystery how they get there at our course. They are fished out of ponds, and creeks, by the course employees, who then add to the supply of range balls. A couple of holes are close enough to the range, that good slice will mix the private balls in with the range balls, to be collected later on. Strangely enough I see all the brands except the high end series of balls, such as the PV-1s for an example. Never see them mixed in. I think when those $$$$ balls are collected, they go into the collector's bag.

As for taking the range balls from the course, or to play with, not sure why anyone would want them. Most of them will have there own ball flight charactoristics, since they have been hit so many times. That, and that contraption that picks them up is pretty tough on covers. Those who keep them to practice with, would do just as well to go to a dollar store, and buy a box of some off brand for couple of dollars. GJS

well if the course and the range are owned by the same company he did not steal the balls because he left them on their property

LOL...And Aftford I didn't mean any disrespect too you. I thought it was a strange question. I have bought a large bucket and only hit half ,took the other half home and brought them back too finish them at a later date.
It just seemed this guy was being cheap or like people I play with, love too
power drive and didn't want to lose their own balls. One course I play has a train that runs parallel too the course and when a train goes by everyone
tees up a ball and tries to hit the train.

It takes a lot of guts to use a range ball on a golf course. Most of the pros I know would kick you off their course. It's stealing, plain and simple.

I dont know about the ranges by everyone else but there are 2 by me.

! of them uses 90% balls and the other uses 60% balls.

The question I would ask is not whether you should but why would you want to?

I havent been losing very many balls these days. My GF might just be stealing range balls at night because she keeps asking me why I have to buy new balls every other month. She keeps saying, didnt you just buy some balls? LOL

I would never use the range balls on a round just because when I am hitting a bucket, they dont work there either. I know that they wont work on the golf course!! LOL

Range balls are for the range, end of story. At my local range all balls are stamped with : "this ball stolen from (named) range!

I was told that range balls carry 10% less than normal balls, so if you hit a range ball 150 yards with your 7 iron you should hit it 165 on the course with say proV, they also dont have the FEEL, SPIN and so on, so why o
why anyone would pay good money and play a round with range balls!!!!???

On the two local courses I play, they mark their range balls. If you are caught on the course playing with one of them, you can get kicked off the course or even lose your membership.

Personally, I wouldn't use range balls for reasons already stated in this thread: They've been hit a lot and have their own ball flight characteristics and the machine used for picking them up is hard on the covers. I do donate some of my private balls to the range. After I've played a few rounds with them and the cover is cut up a little, I tee em up on the range and let loose.

I run a driving range on Mondays. And A guy who walks the local course next door picking up balls comes in with at least 10 of our range balls every week. What these people don't know is that our range balls are bigger in size and are only 1 peice and they travel 88% the distance. And they feel like rocks.

But if people can't hit consistantly they would even notice the difference between the distance anyway.
