I'm sure it is not too exciting for most of you to get a par, but I got my first one today in my third round of golf. On the second hole, I hit a sweet 3 wood right in the middle of the fairway. I then had a wedge shot into the green that came up a few feet short of the green. Took out a 7 for a chip, and stuck in right next to the hole for an easy tap in. The very next hole was a par 3. Took out my 7 iron and plopped it about 30 feet right of the hole pin high. Had a great lag put for yet another easy tap in. Fast-forward a couple of holes to 6, another par 3. I hit a sweet 6 iron a little short of pin high and about 20 feet away. Yet another great lag put for an easy tap in. All in all, I and very happy about the pars, but I didn't come through like I should have on most of the holes.
My putting really helped me today, 15 putts through the front 9 when I normally average 20 or more. Although most of the round was very ugly (nine triples and one quadruple) the pars made up for some of the pain. I have also progressed from 145, to 117, to 115, which is nice to see. I realized afterwards that my awkward play was due to swinging the club faster than I could control. This lead to about 5 very fat shots (30 yarders), 3 slices OB, plenty of pushes, and two bunker shots that stayed in the bunker. Next time out, I plan on getting couple pars, turning eliminating quadruples, limiting the triples, swinging smoother, and hopefully shooting in the 100s.
