    Does Size Matter?

    Hi,

    I'm a 'golf newbie' and also have only just very recently joined GTO (Great site btw).

    I'm 6'1'' , 190lbs and in pretty good shape YET there are skinny little guys out there who can hit the ball further with a wedge than I can with a 5!! I'm told my swing isn't that bad - So what's wrong? Some suggest that it could be my 'timing' - I hit the ball straight enough now by avoiding the temptation to 'murder the ball' - When I give it a good lash it can literally go anywhere!!

    Any words of wisdom would be most welcome.

    Hi Jacko. It could be time to see a swing coach. Or, take some video of your swing, and post it here.

      given all things being equal, swing speeed and impact conditions, yes a heavier guide will hit the ball farther, an example would be a dump truck hitting a wall at 100 mph and a mustang hitting it at 100 mph, both would destroy the wall but the dump truck willl do a little better job.

      start at set up, get a GREAT grio, then go from their, By hogans books and start from there.

        Thanks for advice guys - I think maybe I should spend on some lessons -The laws of physics imply that I should be hitting further (even at reduced effort) so I must be doing something radically wrong - I'll try and post a vid of my swing (I've read some really good advice on GTO to othhesr who submitted swing vids!)
