I'm thinking about buying a new putter but am unsure about what length to get. I know the standard length is 35 inches but you always hear about how this is too long for most people. I am 6,1 and only 14 years old and think currently a 34 inch shaft would be the most appropriate for me. At 14 though I think I've still got some growing to do, for this reason would it be best to get a 35 inch one so it will last for a longer period of time?

Re: What putter length?
hi sam
its not just the shaft lenth but also the lie of the club, you want your eyes to be above where the ball is and the lie is evey bit as important as the shaft lenth in some ways ever more important as you can drop your hands an inch or two get your eyes over the ball but if the lie is wrong for you then your better tossing putter in bin and getting a new one.

Basically you want your arms to hang down comfortably and your eyes over the ball. If you are a growing young man you can always add to the length of a putter later on. A little elbow bend is o.k. but as little as possible is best. Look at Phil Mickelson and you will see that his forward arm hangs almost straight down and his putter is very, very short.

Re: What putter length?
It's all a matter of what feels most comfortable for you. The best advice is to go get fitted. Even if you are only 14, if you are already 6"1', you will probably not grow that much more, so the putter length you decide on now will hold you quite some time.
