  • Hybrid?

I Am A New Golfer(3 Months) And Trying To Figure Out If I Need A Hbyrid. I Use 5-9 Irons, Pw, 3,5,7 Woods. My Distances Are:

    Pw- 100 Yards
    5i- 165-170 Yards
    6i- 160 Yards
    7i- 150 Yards
    8i- 140 Yards
    9i- 125-130 Yards
    3w- 210 Yards (off Fairway)
    5w- 190-200 Yards
    7w- 180 Yards

Don't Know If I Maybe Need A 16 Or 19 Degree Hybrid To Finish My Set. I Hit Three Wood About 225-230 Off The Tee. Maybe I Should Replace That Also With A 16 Degree Hybrid It It Will Give Me A Lot More Distance. Any Suggestions Would Be Appreciated Thanks.

    Re: Hybrid?

A 16 degree hybrid should not get you more distance then a 3 wood unless your 3 wood is an older model (most 3 woods have a longer shaft and are at the minnimum 15 degrees). A 16 degree hybrid (strong 3 iron or 2 iron) will have a shorter shaft and be more in line with your 5 wood distance. While the 19 Degree is a 3 iron distance.

The big question is how are you hitting your woods. It is not like you have any yardage gaps in your current set. Your hitting the ball decent distances and if you play more those should increase. If your comfortable with all of the clubs in the bag I doubt if I would make changes.

I would also hold off until you get a swing your comfortable with and then demo a few. Because you want to make sure you get a good flex of shaft for your swing and all of the heads on the hybrids are a little diferent. Wether off set or not, wether more like an iron or more like a wood.etc.

      Re: Hybrid?

Many people find hybrids much easier to hit off the fairway than the comparable fairway wood. This is most likely due to the smaller, heavier head and the (relatively) shorter shaft. They frequently produce better contact and also reduce flat-out duffs. A properly struck hybrid will likely go further than an improperly struck fairway wood. (Yes, I realize this is stating the obvious! )

IMO, you should try one and see what you think.
