Thankfully, Thomas has calmed down after sleeping on it. He was clearly very disappointed, having worked really hard to get the spot.

Thomas has sent Woosie an apology for the harsh tone and the personal attacks. He realises that he was out of line and accepts the captain's decision.

          hi
woosie should understand as he did the same when he was not picked and he had a row with barnard gallacher and he had picked olly at time, he was mad as hell at time too but phoned him the day after to say sorry, as it happened olly feel out ill and woosie got his place.
i'm sure woosie remembers that and understands how thomas feels at the time.

Statement from George O'Grady Regarding Thomas Björn
            05 Sep 2006

"Thomas Björn is a passionate and outstanding supporter of The European Tour. Nevertheless The European Tour will not tolerate comments such as the personal and unacceptable remarks made by Thomas on Ian Woosnam, The 2006 European Ryder Cup Captain.

"We are aware that he has apologised to Ian Woosnam, and he has also apologised to the Tour. Thomas’s commitment to The European Tour has never been in doubt. On this occasion he accepts his immense disappointment caused him to make spontaneous but inappropriate comments. We take this matter extremely seriously and we have fined Thomas a substantial sum. He has accepted this fine. This very unfortunate episode is now closed."

Thomas Björn also released a statement, saying: “Having had a day to reflect on my comments on Sunday, I would like to apologise for the hurtful and personal nature of my remarks to European Captain, Ian Woosnam. I realise I have made a mistake and, as such, have unreservedly apologised to Ian for my comments which were made in the heat of the moment following the disappointment of not making it onto the European Team.

“I am a passionate guy who believes that The Ryder Cup is one of the world's greatest sporting events and I was desperately disappointed not to make it into the team but realise that it is 100% the Captain’s choice and in Lee and Darren, I believe he has picked two great players. All I want now is for all the media, players and golf fans to get behind the team for the matches in Ireland and for my comments to be forgotten.”

I'm not against Clarke being picked, but I think Bjorn deserved it more than Westwood. While I think Bjorn genuinely regretted 'making' his comments, I don't think his opinion has changed.

But then, I don't agree with Verplank being picked either!

I sort of like the Verplank pick, I do not think that Lehman had any other good options. I think with his team he needed someone that is steady and he can run out on the alternate shot matches (where the US traditionally gets slaughtered) Verplank will hit Fairways and has a great short game and plays decent in almost all the big events.

Lehmans other options looked to be Love who has had a really bad year. Has shown that he has no feel for his putting stroke and you can not be sure how he will play from one day to the next. OR Glover a Rookie who you just do not know how he will handle the pressure since he has not even contended in a major.

On the other hand this is the first Ryder cup in a long time where I think that the Americans will win. Maybe I am going to be wrong, But I think that Lehaman has really got Tiger inspired to play this match and he likes the underdog attitude. In the past Tiger has almost taken a "I really rather be else where approach", If Tiger gets some emotion going early it will carry over to the rest of the team.

How can you say Tigers approach has been bad in past years? He trys his hardest in EVERYTHING! You cant be good at every single format in golf, your going to have weaknesses and strengths obviously and tigers weakness is match play and Pairs! Most definatly pairs!

They havent really found a good partner for woods, but now i think he is going to be paired with furyk he should shine abit more!

Re: Captain woosie has made his picks???

In the past 2 Ryder cups the quotes from Tiger prior to the tournement have been complaints about the fact that they do not get paid for this event and that everyone knows Jacks number of Major wins but no one knows his Ryder cup record.

Sure he showed up at the event and did his best, but I do not think that he put in the preparation prior to the event as he does for the other major golfing events he participates in. This time I think he has played the K club course several times this year and is looking forward to the underdog role. I think that Tiger will be very tough to beat.

As for his weakness "being Match play" He thrives in most other match play settings. Going back to his days in the Us Ametuers, the world match play.... .

As for partners if he plays with emotion he should dominate a 4 ball competition by himself. As for needing to be paired with the the 2nd or 3rd best player (Furyk) on the America's side to win is another feeble jstification for his poor record. There are never any truely week players on the America's team he should be a favorite paired anyone on the team.
