  • Will anyone ever score 54?

Pro's regularly score in the low 60's. But will anyone ever play birdie golf for an entire round?

I think that they could, on a short dog track.

However, I doubt we'll ever see a 54 on a Tour stop. The course is just too damn hard. If the PGA ever played a venue where the daily scores approached 15 under, they'd either never play there again, or make the course toughen up.

Now, that said, I'd like to see the PGA boys play a 'local course'. I'd like to see how they could score out of balding rough, gravel-pit sand traps (complete with footprints) hardpan fairways, and freshly aerated greens.

In other words, yes, these guys are good - but I'd like to know just how good.

Impossible! Like LowPost said, never on a championship course at least. Hey, you can count on one hand players who have played 59. I rest my case.

Not in a major. You would almost need a course where there would be several reachable par 5's and some driveable par 4's to have a chance. Can't really see it being done without at least 3-4 eagles.

I'd say "yes", but it won't be golf as we know it as today. Technology in balls, and equipment will advance to the point where bogey, and par per hole scores will be a surprise, and not the norm. I would think that type of technology is some where between 50, and 100 years down the road, but believe a pure birdy round will eventually happen.

I understand there is a 6 year old youngster (boy) phenom in Europe who is being labled the next Tiger Woods, only better. Perhaps he will shoot a 57 someday, who knows. Or, will a young lady come along some day who would make Annika's game take a dirt road into oblivion and shoot a 56. A 54 is relevent to the talent, and the equipment available in the far reaching future. GJS

i think i saw a comercial saying tha jack niclaus has hit a birdie on every whole of the masters throughout his career. it is just a matter of doing that all on one day.....

Re: Will anyone ever score 54?

You will need to hit a few eagles and albatrosses to achieve that feat, but just as those two birds do not flock together in nature, they are unlikely to come together on the golf course.
Ricky says that he will do it however, so we will just wait and see!

Yeah I noticed they did not tell what his highest scores on each hole were.

I scored a 54 on thursday with some of my best golf ever. I hit 5 eagles in the round.

I have never enjoyed Tiger Woods 2006 so much!!!

True. You could be missing two fingers and still count em.

18 holes (most strokes under par):
13 - by Al Geiberger, shot 59 (29-30), in 2nd round in winning the 1977 Memphis Classic. 1 eagle, 11 birdies.

13 - by Chip Beck, shot 59 (30-29), in the 3rd round of the 1991 Las Vegas Invitional. 13 birdies. Finished tied for 3rd place.

13 - by David Duval, shot 59 (31-28), in the final round in winning the 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. 1 eagle, 11 birdies. Made six-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole. Won by one stroke.

It will never happen. Most birdies in a row on a PGA event is 8. The last one to do that was Jerry Kelly at the 2003 Las Vegas Invitational. He ended with a third round 65.
