  • Killed a Duck

Yesterday, my errant 3 wood over a lake killed a duck. My ball must have broken its neck as it flopped into the water with its head below the suface. I watched its body jerk around for 2 minutes while it stuggled to raise its head, but to no avail. I guess it must have drowned. The other ducks swam around the dying dck making their quacking noises. I stood there horrified wondering if I should swim out to the animal and try to rescue it but I realised it would have been futile. I had been playing a very good game up until then, a few shots over par. When I continued I ended up shooting a 10 on that hole. I can't get this off my mind (the duck I mean, not the 10).

    Did you yell "four"?

I was playing with our head pro and a good friend at the time, Dr. Miller (a vet) one afternnoon, and while riding with the pro he proceded to chase a flock of Canadian Geese off the fairway with the cart. He always does this as he hates the birds doing their business all over his course. He got a little too close to one and it came up lame, couldn't get away fast enough and had it's neck run over...

He was in really bad shape (the pro...the Geese was dead on the spot)...but not as bad as the Dr. He came running over yelling at the pro, "What the hell did you do that for?!?! Oh my god!! Quick, get me a towel." He placed it in the towel, drove it to his car and to his hospital to what we could have only guessed to attempt to revive it.

The Doc never played with us again. The pro does not change geese on the course any more. I carry an extra towel...you never know when your going to need it.

Be VERY CAREFUL with them Canadian Geese. I hear that if you get too close, they can strike at your leg with their beak and even one of their wings with such force that they can BREAK YOUR LEG.

Just a word of advice to the wise...

        sdscouse,
It was not something you meant to do and accidents happen. If you feel that badly about it make and effort to repay the animal world by assisting to save a couple of other animals when the oppurtunity arrises or step out and look for oppurtunities. If this one passing aways inspires you to save two animals then that would leave you one under par

Thanks for the kind words shooting4par. I am an animal lover and that's why I feel bad about it. After the game, and the word got around in the clubhouse, a number of people congratulated me on my "birdie". Couldn't see the funny side of that at the timer. Maybe tomorrow

              Hi sdscouse,

Nevermind accidents do happen but it is a shame you left the dead duck behind as it would of made a great evening meal with it being very fresh and wild. From a butchers you would have to pay £20 for anything like that.

              Cheers

So how many birdies have you had? Don't feel bad - its number was up. It was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well, if you must play at the quack of dawn, but seriously that was a foul thing to happen, pitty there was no Ductor around to help. I bet you nearly quacked up at the sight.
