  • Chapman-4 Competion

    Hi mates,

next weekend I'm hoping to play in a comp, the last one for this year.
The comp is played as a Chapman-4.
Any of you out there ever play in a Chapman, and can you tell me how it's played and maybe if you have a few tips for me.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Re: Chapman-4 Competion

    Hi Ian,

In the Chapman System, both players on a side tee off, then they switch balls. Player A plays Player B's drive, and vice-versa. Each player hits his or her second shot. They then select the best of the second shots, and from that point until the ball is holed they play only one ball in an alternate shot format.

It's a fun format that can produce low scores if your games are on. In addition to putting the weaker ball in play first so the stronger player can whale away, you want to decide on which ball to continue with based on the players strength. E.g., if one of you is better at chipping and the other at putting keep that in mind.

I know Ian is playing in the 4, but somewhere did I not read that this could be played with 2 players, 4 players and 6 players?

If you have 6 players, is it always the case that you divide them up into 3 groups of 2 players or can you go 3 and 3 and play best ball or even in the case of four are they always divided into 2's.

Would like to learn more and comments from all is welcome.
        cmays,

I'm not familiar with this format having teams of more than 2 players. Because of the format, I'm not sure how it could/would work. Would be interested to know if anyone has played that way though.
