Re: tons of practise and still a bad round!

    Hi Slats,

Not read everyones answers as it tends to change my thoughts.

Two thing spring to mind, we all have day were nothing seems fair bad lies, missing fairways behind little shrubs etc etc etc oh and missing every little putt.

STILL: we should still play resonably well, a few tour pros shot 80s every week on tour but still hit the ball well, key word is consistancy.

It appears to me like you are practicing what you are already good at not what you dislike, practice engrains confidence, if you chip everyday for a week with a 60 degree and first time out have a chip over a bunker, you can hardly contain you excitement.......getting my drift????????

Secondly just a little subconcious doubt, if you are checking for nerves on the first tee you already have them, bear in mind most people do, some show some don't, I played county darts for years, some hands shake some don't.
The only way around nerves is confidence in your own ability and a good pre-shot routine, if your on for a good score then remind yourself your only there because your playing well.

Just accept what the course gives you and try to keep an even thought patten to the end, again pre-shot helps, be methodical.

Don't panic you shoot a good one next time.

      Hi ian
      thanks for your reply
      your diagnosis is spot on!
prior to the works comp i had mixed results with driving so i suppose i wasnt 100% confident that i would hit a good tee shot.
i have booked a lesson with pro for next week to try to straighten a few things out.
playing the course for the first time also raises doubt in your mind!
ive managed to find a local range that has good putting practise greens as well as a few bunkers and a pitching area
thinking of going there 3 weeks out of 4 and playing 18 holes just once a month! what do you think?

Re: tons of practise and still a bad round!

        Hi Slats,

Over winter i think it good to get out once every week if poss, just to have a steady round, if it's temp greens, I am sure you know what i mean (poor) then I practice chipping with my three wood or blading a wedge, use the course as you practice ground, learn to take it easy.

Tell your pro your problems with mental attitude he may be able to help with a good pre shot, that has a certain move which eliminates your worries a little.

Maybe it's no where near as bad as you think..........
