    Winter Golf Tip Number 1
Pack up your bags & family & move to Australia. It has been perfect of late.
I dont want to rub it in, but I played all winter in shorts.
I'll keep you up to date on my playing climate over summer so you can dream of a happy place.
26 degrees C on Saturday (perfect)

          Re: Winter workout

Ian started this discussion on "Winter workout". I started golf just about one year ago and I have been learning how to swing this year. Dropped my HCP from 47 to 13. (Not to single digits as my goal was.)

I learned that golf is mental, but how can we practice our mental capasity? And how can it be done when not playing - like winter practice in Finland?

I will take this question to the "golf practice" section. It could be also "Psychology" :-)

Moving to Australia has to wait for a while. (I have lived in Sidney for two years 40 years ago as a kid.)

              Re: Winter workout

              hi
try using computer golf games in winter. but do so with a goal in mind. like you only can us a driver on 5 holes and you have to play a pitch and run to the green on another 5, aim for middle of greens and you hit them 30/40 more, par 5s play your drive or irons to give you a second shot to fairway to leave you diffrent distances from the green each time you play.
it gets you thinking about the course layout and where is the best points to put a ball on every hole and why. then think of doing the same on the course you play most, even if it means just taking a walk round it and looking at the points you have noted down.
i tried this 2 year's ago i as i was off with a bad back and no golf for a year. i found i could walk round the course but not play at first and i took note of what i call all my aim points (the points i want my ball to end up off the tee), one hole has a downslope at 200/210 yards and that where my 1 iron flys too and i found after i walked and looked at it that the 1 iron hit the downslope and run about 70/80 yrds, that more than my driver went on that hole. also i found out that walking round i saw parts of fairway that was flat and maybe 10/20 yards shorter than i was hitting me drives but my drives were on a slope.
winter you can spend a lot of time thinking about your course and how better to manage it, it takes time but winter is the best time to do it, also its a good time to take notes of the greens and the slopes and where is the best place to put the ball for a flat putt. most handicap golfers only think of the green when there on it and not before, the pros go to school on the greens before the ever hit a shot.
i will be doing this again this year and updating my notes from last year, also it helps with bunkers as to which ones you can get out of easy and ones that are a nightmare, here on links courses the bunkers are all deep and some have a face over 6 feet, so you then know the ones to make sure you miss and the ones you can risk being close too.
sorry to go on so much but hope some of it helps someone.

                Re: Winter workout

                Interesting idea, Bill.

I can see the benefit of playing around with Tiger Woods for the playstation, trying to work with different playing strategies and course management.

I know for certain, that I waste a lot of strokes, because I'm not in a good position. I still suffer from the "Hit it as long as you can" disease. There REALLY is no idea in choosing a low percentage 3w from fairway in order to get a low percentage 3/4 wedge to the green, if you can hit a higher percentage 6-iron to 120 yards and get a high percentage full swing 9 iron to the green.

The number of balls I've lost to hazards or out of bounds because of bad course management is beyond what I can count. Heck ... balls lost in the rough because of low-percentage high-pressure shots is far more than I wish to recall.

I have only 1 wish: A course designer feature, so that I could try to put my home course in the game!
I know that some PC games have this, but honestly - I rarely have the opportunity to load games on my PC anymore, so I would like this feature in console version of the games!
