  • bend down more and put better!

My putting is by far the worse part of my game, I have around 34 putts a round, 3 days ago when practising I bend down more and my head was well over the ball, It felt realy good, and gave me confidence once I holed a few, thursdays round 25 putts, today 29 putts, something is working! what I find difficult is getting my body used to this new postures, it seems to go away and I search and can't remember how I stood or took the putter back!! (It sounds like I need to see a Dr), any tips on getting the body used to repeting the same swing or posture?

Well what I do is, as I align my putter face with my right hand only, I let my left arm go limp, then I move into the ball until my left hand is able to grab the putter, this seems to get me into the same position most of the time. Never paid much attention to how much I bent over, but I suppose once you find what you like, you could develope a site picture of you left hand and maybe your feet or something, should look the same.

The best way I know of to get the body use to any change is through repitition. Eventually the body becomes use to the change. As for losing what you did right to sink a putt, while on the practice green, take copious notes on the various aspects you putting stroke when you are putting well. Start from the ground up, and don't forget to check where your putter face lines up in back of the ball.

In my putting stroke, I need a slightly open stance, with my hips/shoulders square to my target line. My eyes need to be over the ball and the target line. I have to have my ball lined up off the face of the putter, but more towards the toe. If I don't line the ball off the toe of my putter, I can't hit the ball off the center of my putter.s face, which means I can't hit a straight putt due to my own putting stroke glitch. These three items are part of my pre-putting routine, and are second nature for me. GJS

        hi
first thing! does the putter fit your body. a test done on 1000 handicap player had only 132 playing with the right length putter shaft for the swing. what dave plez says is to drop the hand and bend so eyes over the ball and see where the putter grip fits. most grips will be up past your wrists making you have to bend your elbows to putt holding the top part of grip.
having the wrong putter cost most handicap golfers at least 4/5 shots a round and has nothing to do with there swing only having ther hands and arms in wrong place. if your puttings bad like mine was then get dave plez putting bible and your putting will get better if you only do a few of the things he tells you to do.
i went and got a broomhandled putter and i never seem to miss now from 6 feet when before anything for 4 foot out was a 50/50 shot.
my friend say i cheat using me broomhandled putter as my game has got so much better on the greens. i also can aim for the flat part of the greens and be further away from the hole and know i will still do no more than 2 putt and sometimes one putt, when before i would try and get as close as i could to the hole even if it ment a i had a harder put with the break.

          hi cmays
i use a broomhandled putter and i stand strait up and my left hand holding the top of the 50 inch putter at top of my right shoulder. my right hand drops down and grips the bottom of the lower grip. i stand facing the hole, my feet both face the hole too and i feel like i swing only my right arm and its like having the ball in your hand and you trying to roll it toward the hole, i dont look at the ball i look at the hole. i know this sounds strange and i felt weird doing at first and got a lot of ribbing from my friends but it works and they dont rib me anymore as i am a really good putter now and i never was very good before i changed to this way of doing it.
the only part on my body that moves is my right arm, it just like swinging it when you walk but with your palm facing the hole.

great tips thanks all, you are right Bill, my putter doesn't fit me, I have to grip it down a lot. i am left hander and choice of clubs and putters although improving still not as wide as it is for right handers, i haven't tried the broomhandle putter, I will give it a go.
