Recently at a junior tournament in my home club one of the competitors used the pitching wedge on the putting green to chip the ball to the hole.My dad who caddies for me, says the rule is silent and hence one is right, but what about the damage to the green? Any thoughts?

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
Re: Wedge on the putting green !!
Allowable, certainly (you may use any club to strike the ball), but the greenskeeper will certainly have some choice words.

Re: Wedge on the putting green !!
when I played a round last week I came up to the 4th green to find an enormous divot on the green, someone had obviously misshit a tee shot on the next hole landed on the green and played the ball where it was,"well it was a good lie"

Re: Wedge on the putting green !!
I seem to remember Phil Mickelson doing this once.
He was on an odd shaped green than had a bunker that protruded into the putting surface. He landed on a part of the green where the bunker was between him and hole so he played a lob shot at the flag. While the commentators said that this was perfectly legal, they also mentioned that greenkeepers around the world would be apopletic at the thought of their members trying this!
In a comp I might think of doing it if I had to, in a practise round not a chance.
