I am throwing myself to you knowlegable folk out there. I have seen many golfing dvds, videos books etc and some say start the downswing with the arms and some say start by moving your left or right leg (turning hips) towards the target and letting everything else follow. Whats the definative answer?

Re: legs or arms?
I never mind a chat, it breaks up the boredom of work. I am currently trying to go down the dropping the arms route. It has definately shown good signs and when I get it just right I get a lovely straight high ball flight. The thing I have to guard against is as the round progresses I tend to get a bit faster and try to smash the cover of the ball which leads to me slashing at it and coming over the top. Smooth and easy is definately the way to go.

Re: legs or arms?
What starts the downswing?
The start of the downswing is identical to that of walking, you simply transfer your weight from one leg to the other
Try this drill for the answer in the golf swing:
Step In Drill:
Setup with a narrow stance and place the ball about an inch outside of your left foot (Righties). Make a smooth backswing and just as you are about to start the downswing allow your left foot to step to the left side of the ball. In reality your left leg should start to move just before you reach the top of your backswing.
As your weight naturally settles on your left side fire your body through the ball to your finish position.
Repeat this drill a number of times and try to pick up the wave like motion that will start to come after a few shots.
