  • Back swing Blues.........

Over the last year or so I've developed an overswing that I can't get rid of. My takeaway is good and the wrist s cock well. My shoulder turn is 90*. But here starts the problem. For whatever reason my left arm breaks down and its as if I reach back another foot at the top. Not only do I catch sitght of the clubhead from my left eye but also most of the shaft. From here to get it back to the impact zone takes remark able ability. Alas it doesn't happen often. What can I do to stop this?

Minimize the movement of your knees. Right knee no movement and left knee minimal movement (right handed). Keep your belt buckle level back and through (no tilt)

Keep a braced and flexed right leg that you can coil against. Try this drill to get the right feeling.

take a narrow stance and address a 7 iron. Put your left foot back so the big toe is in line with the right heel. take some smooth swings with the right knee braced and flexed and feel the coiling action created.

Do this a number of times and try to repeat the same feel with your normal stance.

Yes thisworks as my best swings come when I consentrate on keeping my wieght on the inside of the right foot during the back swing. I believe some of the problem arises when my right elbow bends past 90* at the top. Thus the overswing...........

Sounds like you are allowing your left elbow to collapse and your hands get close to your head, loosing width at the top. (Thus the left elbow is allowed to close). If this is the case you should work on maintaining a straighter left arm, not too straight though.
