  • Handicap allowance in mens matchplay competitions

I am in the process of organising my club's next seasons mens singles matchplay KO competition and I would like to have the opinion of other club members as to whether their should be FULL HANDICAP difference allowance or less e.g. 3/4 difference?

IMO, handicap events always favour a high capper (someone who can shoot 101 today and 128 tomorrow), therefore I like percentage of cap - around 80%.

CONGU could not disagree with you more!

      See here: http://www.congu.com/template1.asp?pid=174
      and, perhaps more stingingly,

Kind of long, but a good arguement for full handicaps.

Tend to disagree Ben, when all is said and done, luck can only get you so far and ability will shine in the end.

My club's matchplay knockout event event was won by our low marker, a young fellow off 2. And he beat 2 guys in his four rounds where he had to "give them the course"......

          Pretty impressive actually.

Bottom line, play better than your handicap on any given day and you are a chance to win...

And with high cappers, they seem less likely to do so week in week out...

Being a high capper, I know this is true of me anyways...

          Cheers

Our knockout singles is match play and the full difference between handicaps are given. The same applies to club pennant (women's).

Yet in our Club Championships, there are no strokes given.

Either way I'm not fussed as in match play, the better golfer on the day will win.
