is there a more pointless activity than playing golf in winter?
i drove for an hour to try a out a new course and it looked promising as we drove through wrought iron gates up to a smart clubhouse. the practice green was bathed in sunshine.
what followed was 4 hours trudging through ankle deep mud, 6 pro v1's lost in the middle of the fairway.
teeing off from uneven temporary "tee boxes" using fairway mats and playing to winter greens.
wasnt really worth getting up at 5.30am

In the winter I am way south. In the summer I way north. Never to cold, and never to hot. Wind, and rain are my biggest weather issues. GJS

Take the good with the bad Slats. Summer is coming your way my friend. We need the rain over here - us poor farmers. Water is an issue.

Hi slats, I agree about the conditions ,but a lot of coarses are shut in this area {south east}, so I feel lucky that ours is at least open, Im retired from work and I would be climbing the walls if I could"nt get some golf in.By the way I loved the mother in law joke.IF IT WAS A JOKE !!

              first things first
dont take it too seriously, crazy stuff happens in winter golf
The chip and run that lands in a puddle and stops dead, or the other one that scates off the frozen temporary green, for the 3rd time.

Secondly, forget prov1's in winter, they dont have the same advantage as they do in summer and you are bound to loose a few of them from plugging.
Get yourself a nice yellow NXT Tour and have a laugh

i play twice a month in a midweek matchplay comp.we have a summer and winter league, and in winter its a lottery what the course and weather will be like.last week i played in a force 9 gale , today i played in sun and no wind, some 7 shots better than last week at 3 under my h/cap.
i still think its better than decorating, which is what the wife would have me doing , if only she could find me.

If you can in find a links course then you'll be fine - I played Gleneagles last week and it was a bog (not complaining as I got on for free through work though!) and then played gullane last weekend and the greens were in as good a condition as in the summer and it felt so good to have a nice solid stance and ground to hit the ball off!

                        hi prowsta
what course at gullane did you play, 1/2 or 3. gullane one is a wonderful course and has great greens, views over the forth are wonderful from the top of the hill, gullane 2 is a good test of golf too, and gullane 3 being a bit shorter is not as tyiring but still has a few good holes too. the course never seems to play the same as the wind always seemes to come from a diffrent direction from the last time i played it. three great course,s and you have luftness new next to it and muirfeild only a few hundred yards away.

You know I had some real mixed feelings the other day. I saw my Mother-in-Law backing over a cliff in my new car!
