Hey there.
I thought Id share m,y findings from this mornings trip to the driving range.
First off, the playing surface makes a big differance from the local school playing field. Its shorter and softer and makes it easier to bring the club against the ball in the right place.
I started off by doing some gentle streching to loosen up my back and shoulders. Very helpyful, nothing worse than a cold start. Same as a car engine, let it warm up before you pressure it.
Next I did some swinging. Making sure I had my stance correct. Back straight, feet properly appart and pointing the right way. Knees slightly bent.
Remebering something the Pro told me. I try to keep my head up so my face is facing the ball squair on. Before I had my head down too far. Next was to start swinging, remebering to keep my head as still as possible and also trying to keep my Hips as still also.
As soon as I fely my hed or hips move too far, I terminated the swing and started over.
Within a few swings I was tickling the grass with the club instead of missing it, or cutting a trench.
Next was to introduce the ball. Definatly the hardest part.
Getting the club facing properly was hard. I was sending a lot of balls off to the far right. Not good. So adjusting of the club and it was landing pretty much where my shoulders were pointing, not where I was aiming for though. But I know what Im doing wrong there.
One problem I saw was that I was "Trying to hit the ball" rather than just swinging as before. As soon as I start "trying" to hit the ball, or trying to put some power into the swing, things start going wrong.
Clearing my mind, and consentrating on "just the swing" gave me some wonderfuyl results. The ball was flying up and along and landing somewhere around the 140 - 150 yard mark.
After soem really nice shots like that. I dropped the 7 Iron and picked up the 1 Wood I had. OH MY!
I definatly need to get some practice with that. I SUCKED!.
I refused to use a Tee, but I dont think it would have helped much... LOL.
I think the problem was simply that the shaft is longer.
Well thats it.
Conclusion:
I gotta stop trying to whack the ball, and I gotta stop thinking about the ball. I gotta just think about the swing and nothing else......
More beginner **** from me later........

I admit, there was more then one time I just dropped my club and walked away... And then there was the one time I threw the club almost hitting the hubby(I didn't expect it to go that far.. I guess my aim throwing my club is just as accurate as my swing with it... LOL). Only thing I could do was take a step back, a few deep breaths and then talk to the people at the range about getting a lesson tomorrow. I've found I am just NOT going to pick this sport up without some major help and that in itself is frustrating for someone like me, who usually can pick up anything she tries fairly quickly. All I can say is don't give up hope, find someone who is reasonably priced but high in knowledge to take lessons from and if all else fails... I'm starting an "I suck at golf" bowling league... LOL
