    Lpga Putting??

    Wow , there was some bad putting going on. But everytime I watch an lpga event the putting seems not as good as the pga putting. It would seem that the women could putt as good or better then the men since physical strength is not a factor. What is the difference ?? Is it mental toughness ?? I dont have stats to prove the men putt better but it sure looks that way. This is not a slam against women.......I love all women.
    It just doesnt make sense.

    i dont thinlk its the putting as much as the reading of the putts, i was watching last week and a lot of the missed putts were misreads and not bad putting.
    maybe the girls just over read the putts sometimes and not trust there first line.
    let me know if you think i have it wrong.

      Putting just flat out lost it for some girls yesterday. Misreads, speed,yips, who knows. I am glad though.......I wanted Morgan Pressel to win. I think she has the mindset to dominate in the lpga. She has that "fire" you dont see in a lot of golfers. She also drained the putts. Go figure she won. 18 years old ....wow.

        Well, with stats being one of my "things" it seems that based on the figures published on the respective Tours web pages, in fact the ladies are the better putters......

        Ernie Els leads the PGA Putting Average list with 1.680 putts per hole or 30.240 putts per round.

        Shi Hyun Ahn & Stacy Prammanasudh (sorry ladies, have never heard of either of you before today) lead the LPGA Putting Averages list with an average of 27 putts per round or 1.5 putts per hole.

        AND... You have to go down to Sophie Gustafsen, who is tied at 113th on the list to get to the first LPGA player with a putting average worse than Ernies...

        I also checked the GIR stats and Tiger leads the Men with 73.61%, whilst Dina Ammaccapane & Jee Young Lee (again sorry ladies, have never heard of either of you before today) lead their list with 75.00%. Although you only need go to Paula Creamer with 72.80% at #8 on the LPGA list to get to the first lady with a worse result that Tiger's.

        This raises an interesting point, why are the ladies seemingly far superior putters than the men...???

        Are they putting on average from closer to the hole...???

          Good work scragger. I wasnt sure my statement was true....it just appears to me they are worse putters.
          If you could have one person to sink a 5 footer to win you a million bucks would it be Shi Hyan or Stacey Prammanasdudh ?

            Ah - Scrags, you've got the dilemma with PPR.

            I average 36 PPR. However, I also hit 3.5 GIR/R. So obviously my short game is horrible. I miss the green, and still can't get up and down.

            I've had rounds with 30 ppr - but was getting up and down like crazy.

            So maybe we have to consider GIR % first, then rank the PPH.

            Or better yet - find the ppGIR leaders.

              This is something that has dawned on me lately, people like us should be looking at a putts in regulation of 1.5 to 1.75 per hole or 30 ppr because our short game should take up the slack - anything more and its clear what we need to work on (and the £££ driver with the big square head won't help - though some lessons might) to get our scores down.

                From memory, we touched on this PPR thing in another thread somewhere's...

                A higher capper who theoretically isn't hitting as many GIR's as a single figure marker and so, arguably, should quite probably look to average fewer PPR. I know where I miss a green I always look to chip close enough to one putt, and I also know it doesn't always happen.

                Back to the stats for a minute...

                For the Ladies, Shi Hyun Ahn again leads the way with 1.650 PPGIR. Given her overall PPH is only 1.5, I guess that shows she's pretty good with her short game

                Interestingly, the men don't keep this stat.

                  are the women playing the same courses for their stats comparison?

                  It would be interesting to see the putt and GIR stats compared to the stimp meter average. Now that would be a stat!!!

                    I remember seeing somewhere about how much more difficult the greens are setup on the PGA tour. I think it might of been an interview with Michele Wie.

                    I don't think I've seen any woman on the LPGA using medal spikes either. That saves a lot of wear and tear on the greens. (Wake up Phil, you don't need them).
