  • Is a putt off the fringe a putt?

ie; does it count as a putt in my total putts for the round? Does it count as a GIR? Is it a three putt if it takes 3 from the fringe?

No, It isn't included in total putts for your round.

      It's essentially considered a chip.

        Hey

I believe the ball has to be on the green to be considered a putt even if you putt the ball from the fringe.....That's why some of the putting stats can be low.

Down here, we call that "Fringe Dwelling"...

A "Texas Wedge" is another name I have heard used when a player reaches for the "flat stick" when not on the putting surface...

I have seen a guy make a sand save out of a bunker with a putter.

So, no, IMO a putt from off the putting surface is just another stroke and doesn't count towards your final PPR stats.

We don't like fringe dwellers down here...

They tend to pinch the drinks on medal days in the putting comps...

          Cheers

            As per the PGA Tour:

A putt is counted as the first stroke made while on the green, and every subsequent stroke thereafter until the ball is holed.

The fringe is not the green.

As for the second part - if you putt off the green, chip back, and hole out, you've 3 putted.
