Ben, as I posted in my original reply to Slats I had an absolute mare last week, so much so that I might have taken your five good shots with some measure of gratitude

I'm wondering if you and I have a similar problem: that is that we want the improvement too much.

In my case I suspect that this manifests itself in looking for too much control - which I can get away with a wedge but with the bigger sticks means that I tense up and I never fully complete the backswing / turn which I believe is the prime cause of my duck / snap hook.

The other day I came across Squeaky Medlin's words to Daly when caddying his break through PGA - "Kill John, Kill the ball".

I'm no John Daly but I went to the range this morning with the sole aim of forgetting control, positions, technique - at least with a big stick; I just swung the club back, an overswing to my normal way of thinking, and whipped it forward - OK I might have been "directionally challenged" at times but the ball didn't half fly.

The desire to do well might cause you different problems but it might be worth a session or two NOT TRYING - I'm certainly going to give it a whirl.

From one frustrated hacker to another - Good Luck

    Robin

      Re: where is everybody?

      Thanks Robin.

I know what you're getting at - to just swing the club and let the result be the result. However, I'm not happy with the result when I just swing (I tend to 'whip' my hands through impact, causing severe flipping.) So I have determined that I simply need more practice. Yes, that's it. More.

        Pedro,

To be frank - well I don't really need to say that as you know my personality by now, but there is only so much one can talk about the game without it becoming repetitious.

Enough said, must go and get psyched for the second round of the champs. No. 1 at the moment.

        Take care.

          Re: where is everybody?

          Hi Slats,

I think everyone is always here, I like to take a back seat now and let the other spread their wisdom about our wonderful game.

That said I think I will start a thread now.....!!!!

          Cheers

          Ian.

              Nice one brian
seriously i am concerned about my handicap i honestly think i am a lot better than a 23, i have played the course 6 times carding 95,96,92,89,86 and 90.
they used the 95,96 and 92 to assess my handicap.
dont want to be branded as a bandit if i have a really good round in my 1st comp

Remember, handicap is about your potential.

In this case, I'd say you're plaing to your handicap quite nicely! The committee has screwed up. I'd call you a 19 and leave it at that.

                      Re: where is everybody?

Hi Slats, you actually missed us? I haven't been posting too regularly lately, attention was diverted with the Cricket World Cup down here in the Caribbean, in addition to other distractions.
I wonder what's going on with our other old friends - Aftford and Andy. Hope they read this and post us a line soon.
