  • Season Start

    Well guys and Girls,

You should have all being working hard on swing changes etc over the winter in the UK, so now the season is just under way I would be very interested to know:

    1) Have the changes worked?
    2) Has you season started better or worse than you expected?

My changes worked well during Winter but seem to have lost my way at the start of the season, although I have played well in the team match's, where the odd double doesn't matter.

Over all the course is just reaching it's best and the main events for me start this weekend.

    Ian.

    Re: Season Start

    Hi Ian,

I have worked on a few changes recently, one of them was to try Greg's Right hand drill for medium/short shots which although were not bad I have seen room for improvements in consistency. I struggled a little with the concept for a while and rotating the shoulders that amount seemed alien to me, I must say that the improvement in accuracy with Pitch and chip shots is great now, I have also found it to be good with mid irons. Greg, if you are reading, thanks!

      Re: Season Start

i have been working on swinging on a flatter plane and as a result my wood and long iron shots have been far more consistent
also put a lot of time in on the short game and my pitching and putting is a lot more solid.
got my 1st ever club competition (a major) coming up this saturday.

        Re: Season Start

I've been working on 'The RH Drill' since March. I took the last couple weeks 'off', to see how much has been retained... and the answer is roughly none. I still need to practice daily to get that feeling.

I'm also fighting to keep rotating my body, rather than stopping my rotation and hitting with my arms.

The changes work very well, when I implement them.

          Re: Season Start

Had a new born in early fall and then the Canadian winter set in, so this spring I had not played or practiced in 8 months. I have lost 20yds on all my clubs and accuracy has gone out the window. This directly translates to my success on the course - brutal scores (110+).

Luckily I have a range close to work, so I am hoping that going everyday at lunch for the next month will get me back to at least where I was.

Can some one post me a link to Greg's Right Hand Drill? It seems everyone knows about it except me *muses* That's actually a very familiar feeling

                Re: Season Start

I find I hit the ball well every round. My short game is sound as well.

My score seems completely determined by course and weather conditions.

From January to March the course was a waterlogged swamp. I couldn't reach at least five of the par 4's in two. I also struggled to reach two par 3's in one shot. My scores were around 80. In April due to the mild weather, the course dried up and became very dry. You couldn't stop the ball on the greens and it became a lottery. My scores were 75 to 77 on average. Due to recent rain, the course is alot better and today I scored a 73 in quite windy conditions.

                  Re: Season Start

                  Well Ian,

I have had a great transformation with my change. Just the one, but what a problem solver it seems to be.

I always had a good setup, stance etc, but was always missing "something". I came to understand the importance of the right shoulder being lower than the left, which in turn allows me an easier takeaway and a great attack of the ball. I am getting great results from driver to wedge and more importantly, consistency. Recently scored 44 stableford points and cut two shots. OK, I dont expect to drop shots dramatically, but now I have a full understanding of the swing which suits me and gives me the enjoyment.

                  Cheers,
                  Robert.
