  • How do I measure if I've putted well?

I was thinking about this and it's been bothering me. I guess I can measure success off the tee - fairways hit/GIR on par 3's might be a fairly blunt measure but it is a measure.

But how about putting. Total number of putts seems nonsense to me. If I chipped to 6" on every hole and had total putts = 18, that doesn't mean I putted really well, it meant I chipped really well. So how can I track/measure/record successful putting in a round of golf?

    hi
greens hit in reg and then number of putts taken. what i do is mark my card with a ring and put the number of putts in the ring, if no ring on card then i have missed the green and pitched or chipped to green. that way i work out the number of putts -the 2 putts per hole = if i put well or not.

I agree - putts per GIR is probably your best indicator of your putting (but could also be quite indicative of your approach shotmaking ability).

Still, 36 putts with 18 GIR is good...

        Hi There,

One way of measuring your putting is the length of putts per round, easy to note on your card too.

If you haven't holed over 50 feet of putts per round then your putting needs some work.

        Hope this helps.

        Ian.
