A video camera can show you what you're doing wrong.

You need to know WHY you're slicing. For some, it's a path thing. For others, it's a face angle thing. Yet for others, it's a body motion thing.

Figure THAT out, and we can recommend a training aid.

I think its a combination of all of those actually, one day it can be body motion manly getting my arms trapped behind the body on the downswing cos im trying to rotate my forearms to close the club face, some days its a weight thing?

what can you suggest? cos since the pro tried to get me to rotate my forearms to close the face towards the target,i have not hit ONE reasonable shot! i think it might be cos im trying to close the face on the down swing im coming across inside my body.

another lad at the range suggested it could be my grip pressure on the left hand(play rh),he looked at my starting stance, posture, ball postion and grip and found nothing wrong with it,it has to be the back swing?

Well, my personal struggle with the left to right ball movement stems from both a lateral slide and fanning the face open on the takeaway (and not shutting it again coming back).

The slide has all but disappeared since I work very hard on turning and turning, rather than turning and sliding. A shaft stuck in the ground 1" away from my lead hip at address helps to remind me when I've slid vs turn.

As for the rolling forearms problem, the only way I've been able to solve this is to simply keep the club shut during the entire takeaway. In other words, my hands and arms may as well be cast in stone as I turn away from the ball. Then a lift upwards with the triceps, and a turn through, and a relatively straight ball results. This goes badly when I also actively rotate my forearms (as now they're not open) and hit a big hook. But when my forearms stay in the same spot (relative to one another), I hit some really good shots.

Re: Whats the best training Aid?

There is a band aid of sorts that can work to help with a slice while you are the course, with no practice shots a available to you. It has been around for as long as I can remember, and I think Hogan even made a partial reference to it in one of his books.

Align your body (knees, hips, shoulders) square (parallel) to your target line. Once your stance, and alignment is taken, flare your lead foot out towards your target an inch or so. then move your rear foot straight back from your target line about a inch, but turn your big toe in towards your target a little. Don't move anything else but the feet. Then, take your normal swing. A few adjustment might be in order due to individuals' swings.

I don't know why this works, but it does, and I have seen it work for the better many times on the golf course after showing it to someone with a slice problem. Sometimes when I get tired with a few holes to go, I use this set up to help keep the ball flying reasonably straight off the tee. It seems to work better with the longer clubs.

Again, this is only a band aid untill the real swing problem can be identified, and worked out. GJS

This isn't a training aid, but please, please, please watch Greg's RHD training video. It might not be the whole answer but I think if you can assimilate it into your game, you're going to see huge benefits. For me, I can feel the 'immobility' in my right wrist 'locking' the swing into a much more repeatable groove

The gizmo in this link seems quite good. Most slicers swing out to in and with a steep swing plane, shanks are often created by the same flaw. This device forces you to approach from the inside and not too steep.

Golf Lessons: Golf Training Aids: Golf Swing Trainer: Inside Approac

It is quite easy to make a DIY (Povo) version with one of those cardboard club boxes. cut one in half and tape one half on top of the other so it over hangs by a foot or so. lay it down with the overhang forward and place the ball under it, you will be forced to swing from the inside to hit the ball.

Wait a minute, I think I remember a website where one of these is made:
Here it is: Golf Schools » Ritson-Sole Golf School » July 2004: Get rid of that slice! Work the club from the inside » Top 25 golf instruction

or you can just take a clubhead cover and place it 10 inches down the target line 4 iches to the inside of the ball, and if you hit it, you did not come from the inside, or place it 8 inches behind the ball an inch or two outside the target line. Or put both of them down

The best training aid devised, and believe me bro I have tried them all, is Greg Norman's "The Secret". Not only will it give you the correct feel for the proper wrist action but if you will stick with it, you will quickly get the proper feeling of the hips too.

Get one on Ebay. You won't regret it!!!
