  • Shoulder Turn

Shoulder turn(upper body turn I should say) is not mentioned much on this site. I have always found it to be one of the really important things about the backswing. I think of it as: Greater shoulder turn=greater distance(and accuracy).
A proper backswing shoulder turn creates coil against the stationery lower body and also produces the same effect on the throughswing. Without this, nothing much is possible.

Yea, IV not really herd much about the shoulders.
I know your supposed to keep them hips stationary, as you are with your head. But what about the shoulders?

    What do "you" do?

The shoulders turn 90 degrees while the hips turn 45 degrees. Its a turn not a sway although the weight does shift on the backswing to the right leg as it becomes a flexed brace.
The left shoulder is over the instep of the right foot at the top of the backswing, then, the hips initiate the downswing by moving laterally to the left which brings the shoulders, arms and hands into position to impact the ball. Sounds complicated but it all happens in 0.3 sec.
Hope this helps and doesn't scare you. A good book for beginners is The encyclopedia of Golf as it covers alot of subjects and is sound in fundamentals and easy reading.
