Re: Do people in your group affect your score?

If ever anyone hits up on the group I'm playing in, once can be seen as a "possible" indicator that my group is being a little tardy, especially if (and its a big "if") there is daylight between my group and the group in front.

      BUT

If it happens a second time, and without due cause other than unrealistic impatience, I will normally just pick the offenders ball up and walk to the most inopportune releif-less situation I can find and place the ball there, so long as I'm not seen, they can't claim outside agency, yada yada yada...

Like Sid, I have seen a guy hit one back at the offenders, but for mine, that doesn't settle things, as in Sid's example, more often it just inflames things...

We are all out there to enjoy ourselves and get the best out of ourselves.

Too often, we forget we are all one golfing community and we are supposed to show one another respect on the course...

Two wrongs don't make a right my mum always said...

      Cheers

Typical; who else but a lawyer would carry their business cards on the course.

Spot on, as ever. Life's too short. I've done it accidentally - I thought they were out of range, and absolutely wellied it towards some young boy. His mum turned round and waved her fist at me, and whilst now it's moderately amusing, then (and now) I was ashamed and embarrassed, and didn't get the satisfaction out of the monster hit that it deserved!

Life's too short for that kind of conflict, and I guess it's always possible to explain to the group behind that the group in front of you is holding you up, etc.

It does remind me of the dumbest rule in golf - that is, single players having no priority on a course, and being held up behind a four ball when you're playing by yourself is rare but incredibly frustrating when it happens.

Unless your a memeber of the club and the four ball are visitors as members get priority over the them.

If I have been waiting a long time for the group ahead to clear the green I do one of two things:

              1) Shank a lay up into the rough.

              2) Wait for them to clear the green then top the ball halfway to the hole.

Ok Scraggs, Drill one for shanking.

Address the ball with a 7 iron. NOW Don't Shank It!

absolutely, i find that when i play with strangers i can hold my concentration, however my usual crowd are a jovial bunch, as soon as the banter starts my game suffers. In comps play with people you dont know,it also helps you to relax. good luck and happy golfing.

I know I told you that Brian but I was lying.

It's actually me and I'm very hurt at Nicole's ageist attitude; I'm definitely not going to ask if I can play a round with her now.

Re: Do people in your group affect your score?

I am never in a hurry on the golf course. Slow play in front of me is no big deal. It's just a game, and the extra time is good to practice chips, and pitch shots while waiting. My own tempo/timing starts when I am walking up to the tee box, and I can play as fast as needed to keep in front of the groups in back of me. Now if the people in front of me are taking way, way too much time, I will drive around them to the next hole, and return to the missed hole, and play it later on. Most course marshals have no problem with me doing this. Those who do, I just ignore.

On a humorous note when I am asked if I was held up to much by those in front of me, I just tell them the only time I am in a hurry is when I am running away from an ugly women. GJS

Well putt GJS. I would only comment that in the UK most courses and people do not use buggies so it is not possible to "drive around". IMHO some people are slow and that cannot be changed but slow players that do not let faster groups through are inconsiderate and should be reprimanded by the course officials. Keep up with the group ahead, not ahead of the group behind!
