  • 3 wood off tee - and ball postion

I have a quick question. I normally hit a driver off the tee but I have been having trouble with control lately. Late in the round yesterday I decided to hit my 3 wood of the tee but I was slicing it as well. I think it might be my ball position because I was placing the ball in the middle to slightly forward in my stance.

My question is for a 3 wood off the tee what is the optimal ball position. Should it be the same as my driver or slightly forward in my stance like a four iron.

    Thanks,
    robf

    cMays:

Thanks for the suggestions, it is funny but all the things you mentioned plagued me at one time or another through my golf lifetime.

The reason why I think it might be my ball position is I hit my irons well( as a matter of fact I've been hitting my 4 iron fine off the tee because of the trouble I've been having with woods off the tee) and I hit my 3 & 5 wood off the fairway well, although I do occasionally block.

I will try your suggestions on the range and see what happens. Do you have ( or point me to posts ) that explains drills for keeping the shoulders back and fixing over the top action?

    appreciate your input,

On the downswing, try to get your right elbow down to your right side as you turn through, this will keep your shoulders back and put you on plane.

excellent. thanks for the tip. I'm taking it to the range tomorrow and try it out. Start off nice and slow.

        Robf.

PS I always know I have to do that but sometimes it just doesn't happen.
