    Ok, I am not stupid so I know that to "stripe"the ball means to hit it really well.

    Where does this term come from. What does stripe have to do with a good hit.

    I can only guess that it means that you hit it very straight, as in a stripe being a straight line. Maybe even the stripes in the fairway are normally in straight lines and you hit the "center stripe".

      The origin of the word goes back to slave days. A good crack of the whip put a stripe on the slaves back. A solid hit = stripe.
