  • Frustration Setting In

Today was a beautiful day for golf here in NC. However, I must say that I was frustrated with today's effort. My goal has been to break 90 by year-end, but it seems that my new goal should be to break 100.

I got off the tee in good shape for the most part. I left my driver in the bag and used my 3-wood. When I missed a fairway, it was usually because I pulled it to the left. Considering how I had been hitting my tee shots, this was my moral victory of the day.

My iron shots stunk except for one 9-iron that I managed to hit over the flagstick, off the green about 6 feet. I did chip it to within four feet and make par. (My only other moral victory for the day.)

I am still pulling all of my iron shots to the left. Not a hook but dead left from clubface to treeline. I cannot figure out if my timing is off, if I'm not finishing "high" or my release is no timed right. It's frustrating because I am now hitting my 3-wood fairly well and straight , as I meentioned. I figure the swing for my irons should be the same as my 3-wood.

Alas, I hope I can work this all out before I go insane!!

    Frustration - join the club!

I hear someone reflecting my sentiments to perfection. This used to happen regularly but has now subsided. Being a high handicapper, I cannot be very technical about what I did to reduce the incidences. The reasons could be anything from grip pressure, take-away to dominant left hand. Finally, I found out that the relaxation of the grip pressure, particularly of the left hand, and a conscious slow take away, not an ubrupt lifting of the club, reduced most of my problems. I am also waiting for a good samaritan offering some useful tips and routines/ exercises that I can follow

      Good Samaritan

For what is worth, when I pull a shot, I always look at ball position. If you are playing the ball too far forward with irons, unless your swing accomodates that position-which most do not-you will pull what otherwise may have been a good shot.
With irons, move the ball back and experiment with what position fits your swing by taking practice swings and see where your club bottoms out on the downswing-whereever that is-is the correct ball position for you.
Also, your upper body turn on the backswing should place your left shoulder over your right instep or near it. Take a swing and see where your left shoulder is at the top of the swing.
Another drill-take half swings and make sure the toe of your club is pointing straight up-put your feet together and hit balls easy swinging with the toe up half swings back and toe of the club half way through to your finish. The ball will go amazingly far, straight or a little draw with very little effort. This toe up position is something you should strive for.
      Hope this helps

        frustrated

Hello all (first post). Without seeing your swing, all we can say is what we found to work when we pull some shots. It's a shot in the dark that it will be the same fix you need. Having said that..... I find if I don't keep my head behind the ball at impact, I snap one off to the left. Also, it can be as simple as alignment and set up. Square up everything. Feet, hips, and shoulders. Good luck. Jeff

            My 2 cents

When I pull, it is lack of extension of arms in followthru'. Try extending hands after impact.
