  • Game is coming together!

I'm having more fun golfing now than I ever have. I've shot under my handicap about the last 5 times out. I've always been consistently around my handicap within a stroke or two. Occasionally going 6 strokes better and occassionaly 6 strokes worse. (Talking 9 holes here).

Well all year I've been working and a wider backswing and a shallower swing. I started hitting a few more gir. Then the last 3 weeks I've been very good with the wedges in my hands, and even better with the putter.

My putting has been the biggest surprise. I spent most of the year, changing how I grip it. Tried left hand low, the claw, tested a belly putter. Nothing worked. Went back to my original grip. Really worked on keeping my head still and not peaking at all. Had some marginal success with that. Then I had a round that I putted lights out. I knew how it felt, but didn't know what I was doing differently. Putting slipped a little. Then I read a tip about keep my shoulders a little more rigid. Now my putting key is to tighten a muscle around my left shoulder blade.......WOW I'm sinking a ton of putts now.

    I had a 19.9 hcp 3 weeks ago. Posted 5 round and down to a 17.1.

Well all it took to unravel my swing is to sign up for a competition and post the previous message in the thread. Shot my worst score of the year yesterday.

      ROFL.

The funny thing is, I read this last night and thought 'how long until he posts the "Game is falling apart!" thread'.

I've done the same thing - shot really well in a tournament, but hesitated to post/say anything to anyone for fear of retribution from the 'Golf Gods'. I thought I could overcome it.

But I couldn't. It's another immutable law of golf. You will play poorly immediately after shooting your best round. How poorly you will play is directly proportional to how many people you told, and how grand you made it sound.

Just a question ... are you playing only 9-hole rounds? If so - how can you get your handicap adjusted? In Denmark, you can't get your handicap adjusted unless you play 18-holes (when you're below 37 hcp).

On this side of the pond, Mox, you can hold both a handicap index (meant for 18 holes) and a handicap index N for 9 holes. I'm a 24 and a 14N respectively.

Ghin will wait until you've completed 2 9 hole rounds and combine them, to adjust for your handicap.
