  • Sergio D.Q.

What does everybody think of Sergio getting disqualified for "lying" on his scorecard. I think its rediculous. If they are going to keep your score for you then why have a scorecard ? So you have a chance to get disqaulified ? Why dont they just correct his card and dock him a stroke? I think as many rounds these guys play they sooner or later will make a mistake on their card. Everyone knows your not going to get by with cheating your score card in a tournament like this.

Well it is part of the game, checks and balances. FYI Sergio didn't lye on his card, boo was the one that wrote the wrong score, a four instead of a five. Sergio should have ckecked it before signing, but he was in a big hurry and left the score tent. From what I understand Boo even tried to tell him he wasn't sure about the score, but Sergio left anyways, once you leave the score area, it is a done deal, the officals score card didn't match...lol...not like it wasn't televised or anything.

By 'they', you mean the marker? I kind of get where you're coming from, but you have to have a marker or some folks would just make up a score (more than they already do...) and if you just had a marker, some would mark their opponent down to keep them out of the competition.

Or you have a system where an external ref follows them and scores them, but that's surely totally contrary to the spirit of golf - that every player is his own ref. It's worked thus far, and it should still work. I mean, God love Sergio and all, but - bluntly - more fool him. I don't sign anything till I've checked it hole by hole. If club players can do it, why can't Sergio? He isn't the first and he won't be the last.

          That'll learn him

I didnt know about all this. The article on pga.com didnt say anything about Boo telling him this. So your saying if he stayed in the scorers tent and fixed it he wouldnt have got a dq ? Im not up on how they do the scorecards. The article made it sound like if you mark your card wrong and sign it your dq'd. They didnt say you could change it. If you are correct then he does deserve what he got.

              Re: Sergio D.Q.

BTW - televised thing is irrelevant - Sergio might have moved his ball in address or something that cameras didn't see but only he and the marker knew about...

If you sign it and hand it in, you are DQ'd. It's very clear in the rules, and what's ridiculous is he knew that but didn't do anything about it - though, in fairness, as far as I know, he's not moaning about it; like I said, the rules couldn't be more explicit about it...

Here is the article I read from MSNBC:
Sergio DQ'd from PGA for scorecard error - Golf - MSNBC.com
I don't know for a fact, but I believe the PGA is not so unbending as to to DQ someone over a mistake, and even though he had signed it, if he had remained, I bet they would have allowed the change, but once he left the area, I guess it was out of thier hands. Least that seems to be the just of the article.

The TV comment was just a joke, meaning why would a pro in the one of the biggest televised event try to cheat...way to many witnesses....

                  Re: Sergio D.Q.

It's part of competitive golf, it's his fault for not going over the the score and no one else's. They pretty much know what they are at in their head anyways so it was dumb of him to allow that to happen. In any tournament you must sign your card and turn it in, and if it is lower than what you actually shot then you are disqualified. It's the rules and that's why Sergio didn't complain about it.

                    Re: Sergio D.Q.

                    Rule 6.6 covers this incident.

Bottom Line, Sergio was responsible and regardless of the circumstances, only has himself to blame, if indeed he feels a need.

Goes to show, the rules of the game are there for all of us to know.

IMO, he knew, and was probably not a very happy golfer and just wasn't paying attention to detail at the end of a round he'd sooner have over again...

                    Cheers
