Re: How do you enjoy golf when playing badly?

I am going through a bit of a funk right now and will play tomorrow. I am determined to try and enjoy the process of golfing even if it goes tits up tomorrow.

Damn, it went tits up before a ball was even struck. My wife was sick all night so I have had to miss my round of golf to look after my daughter.

No, I couldn't do it - I lasted till the 5th hole when I three-putted from 15 feet - except I DIDN'T three-put - as I went to carelessly tap in the one foot 3rd putt one handed in disgust, I missed it and that was the end of my day.
It was a stableford competition and I had 14 points going out (that performance on the 5th green also blew out 3 of the next 4 holes) I came back with 16 points but there was simply no enjoyment in it at all, I'm not the least bit interested in scoring 30 points.
I have a pschological problem that is not helpful with golf - it's a bit like my maths exam at school years ago - I am mathematically dyslexic, but instead of doing my best and getting 35% or something I walked out and got 0% deliberately even though I knew the answers to a couple of them.
Me quitting on the course feels similar to walking out of the exam.
Playing again tomorrow morning, matchplay against a guy that's never beaten me, but it makes no difference because I play against myself.

          Mariner:

Sounds like you should take a break for a week or two and come back refreshed with a new enthusiasm and positive outlook.
