  • Lightning Rod / Sacricial Lamb

    Went out today.

And that's probably all I want to say about the round.

Except that the boys should have a great day at the GTO Open tomorrow because I think I must have attracted every rubbish golf shot in the cosmos into the short span of 18 holes.

    AAAARRRRGH what a game

    hi
were you trying to put things right when you were playing or just trying to play with a poor swing on that day?

Pretty much put your finger on it there Bill.

In fact I had been working on a problem (hooking my irons) on the range, made the problem worse not better and when I went out just carried out fiddling with my swing which then effected the rest of the game.

      Idiotic really.

        hi
its a bad move to try and change things when playing a round, better doing that at the range and trying to work with what you have on the golf course, i never try and change things when playing a round now and my score's have got better. on the course you have all sorts of diffrent things on each shot, diffrent lie, ball above feet or below them change of wind, all can be missed and shape your shot without you realising, at the range you have a flat lie for every shot and little wind change.

True, and I know it really. On these occassions I normally play with what I've and and try to keep well within my limits, as you'll know if you too that quite often your swing can just come back. Yesterday I was on my own so thought "might as well", won't do so again though.

            hi
when having a bad day i always try and slow everything down, even try and slow down how fast i walk, i find that when i start playing bad i speed up and start to rush things, even my putt's, since i managed to get my head round slowing everything down i seem to play better and enjoy the game more too.

              Robin,

Was it you or like me were you affected by the bloody rain? I played in a club stableford competition Sunday and it rained stair rods all day, I ended up loosing the will to live with my game. Drove off like a demon on the first which split the fairway, followed by a perfectly executed shank onto the next that sat comfortably under a bush, that set the scene for the game.

It was also contagious, all three of us started playing a form of military golf (Left, Right, Left) The rain got down my neck, into my feet, down my shreddies you name it, what a relief when the siren sounded to close the course when we reached the 12th. Not many more points between us than the UK's average Euro-vision contest score.

              AAAAAAAaaaaaaaGGGGGggggggHHHHhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

i dont mind the rain so much as i seem to play it it every other week now, what i hate is the cold biting wind and the rain together, numb fingers that you cant get any feeling it, the feeling of you nose had got frost bite. and this is our summer. i am looking forward the the better weather when the winter come's.

Sadly it was purely and simply me.

For weeks I've had a pull hook on my short irons - especially, ofcourse after a good tee shot , so I went to the range to work on the problem.

The range is next to the first tee, it was a reasonable day so I nipped out.

Unfortunately I took the problem out, unfixed and worsened by experiment and then just carried on fiddling and tinkering until the rest of my game was a mess too.

Had "flu" (or as my wife puts it "typical man its just a bluddy head cold") since so don't know if the damage is permanent yet - hopefully not

Those Pull Hooks still there? Try keeping your head and upper body behind the ball and hit a little more in to out.

                      Hi Brian,

Not the original duck hooks from the tee that you helped me with thank god; at the risk of tempting fate I think I've got those under control - not necessarily banished for ever but under control and a rare visitor these days.

These tend to be with sw / pw / 9I - 100 to 130 or so yard approaches and have only recently appeared; after last week's fiddling and tinkering I went into the back garden this evening and just set up to some air balls with a half swing.

In the garden at least I'm actually setting up with the face slightly closed, which I doubt is going to help much , don't know where that's come from (I don't think its my grip) but it gives me something basic to check out next time at the range and you know me - simple and basic is about my limit

Ah! this is probably due to you making an armsy swing on these shorter shots. make sure you still make a proper shoulder turn and as I was saying hit slightly in to out. Should help.
