  • have you accomplished your golfing goalsof 2007?

Well the season is drawing to a close well for you fair weather nancies anyway http://www.moongolfer.com/forums/ima...ilies/wink.gif and medals have virtually finished for most places and the sun is setting earlier each day http://www.moongolfer.com/forums/ima...lies/frown.gif

So have any of you achieved the goals that you set for this year? Has anyone exceeded their expectations despite the joke for a summer this year in england, despite all those "experts" claiming it would be the worst drought ever.
    my goals :-
    1.join a club
    2. get a handicap
    3. break 90
    4. hit more fairways
    5. improve the short game.

    goals 1,2,3,4 hav been achieved
goal 5 still needs a bit more work.

i will be practising hard over the winter on the short game, i will start next season on a handicap of 22 and hope by the end off it to be off 15/16

Re: have you accomplished your golfing goalsof 2007?

Ignoring your handicap for the moment Pedro my goals weren't as structured as yours; or at least not as measurable. Achieved two out three.
    1. I also wanted to start breaking 90, at my Par 70 home course to start with, if not every round then at least on a regular basis; managed that but never ducked under 90 away from home - so that's one target for next year!
    2. I wasn't worried about hitting more fairways because as long as you have a playable 2nd shot I don't think its that relevant, what I did want was to (re-)introduce the driver or even just the 3W to my game without suffering that damned awful duck hook that almost made me quit a year ago; managed that too albeit inconsistently - next year though I want to "nail" those tee shots .
    3. My failure though was in my third goal. I wanted to take my brain out on the course with me instead of leaving it in the car; that is I wanted to play the appropriate shot for the situation most if not all of the time and stop throwing shots away through sheer stupidity - even if my ball striking or swing doesn't improve one jot next year (and obviously I hope it does) then better course management alone could see me reach my "better than bogey golf" target.

      Had two objectives.

      1. To break 80

      2. To become more consistent with the swing.

Didn't manage to achieve the first one but this has been largely due to the fact that I have been making swing changes throughout the season in order to help me achieve objecetive 2.

I'm very happy happy with the progress on objective 2 and as I continue to work on this objective 1 should hopefully fall into place (I hope)

        My goals were:

        1. Break 90.

        2. Strike the ball better, especially with the irons.

I haven't broken 90 yet, but one of the nice things about the Philadelphia area is that the golf season lasts well into November, so there's still hope. We sometimes get some mild days in December as well. I have almost every round of golf I've ever played logged on my cell phone, and it shows that my last round of 2006 was played the day before Christmas--but that was actually the only one in December. I also got two rounds in in January of this year, then nothing until early March. I'll play as long as it's above 40 and not windy.

As for goal 2, I feel pretty satisfied, at least lately.

I tell myself that when I break 90 I'll buy some modern golf equipment, instead of the 1990s Powerbilt Fuzzy Zoeller irons I currently use. But that's more about cash flow than anything else, and it seems that anytime I have a few hundred dollars, something else comes along to claim them. The old Fuzzies are okay anyway.

It'd be good to find the 'goals for 07' thread.

I don't remember what my goals were, but here are some highlights:

              Broke 90 (with an in-tournament 87)
Played the annual Domtar event - was up a flight this year, and finished with a 3 day total of 297 (101/103/93)
Won my flight in Club Champ (96/87)

I've got a few rounds left for new PB's and such... but my goals for next season will probably seem strange to most at this point... (save maybe Ian Hancock - who hasn't posted much lately, and Neil18).

                No!

I am hoping I will be able to nail it though

Seems I did post in that "Goals for 2007" thread and having re read it, no, I didn't achieve either.

The "Blow Out" hole still bites my golfing derriere from time to time (though, that said, now with lower frequency) and my cap only got down from 18 a year ago to its low point of 14 a month ago, to now sit at 15. But not the 10 or 12 I had thought was possible.

It is fair to say I still spend very VERY little time practicing.

This will be my golfing goal for 2008, to dedicate SOME time each week to practice. Even if it is only half an hour on the carpet in the lounge room with my putter.

Hopefully with SOME practice, given I only play one or two rounds a month, I can maintain my 15 mark and hopefully go lower. Maybe not to singles, but closer all the same.

Here are my goals for the coming year (and the rest of this year, FWIW.)

Apply the Think Box/Play Box on every shot, play or practice.

Develop MY preshot routine. Employ it on every shot (combine with Think/Play).

Approach 'bad' shots with ambivalence. Generate emotion for good shots.

Do some mental exercises 5 times a week. Let's get the mechanic quiet!

                        Certainly unlike other posts, yes?

In my life with 3 kids 5 and under (celebrated 1 year with my youngest today) I can't guarantee myself enough practice time to say 'get good at short game', or 'break 80' or 'drive it 300 yards, USGA equipment laws be damned.'

What I can do is work on my mental game, work on assessing lies and conditions, work on proper shot selection, work on recognizing that which I can control vs that which I cannot. Golf is surprisingly fun when you simply play by hitting your ball at a target, finding it, and hitting it again. I hope I'm not coming across as arrogant (re-reading my post, I could see how it could be misconstrued that way) but rather I'd say I'm fully realising the value in playing to my strengths, and realising fully how much of this game is mental.

My goals this year were simple really.

                          1. Get back into the game after a fair layoff. Done

                          2. Continue to improve my scores each time I play. So far, So Good.

                          3. Get the Handicap back and get it down. Getting there slowly.

                          4. Work on my Short Game. In progress.

                          5. Concentrate on getting my basics back (Smooth, Slow Swing/Concentration/Head Down/Stop trying to hit the cover off the ball Etc) Frequent practice/play will help.

The basics are there, I just need to do a bit of Fine-Tuning!

Living 500mt from the range will help me a lot.

                          Cheers

                          Darran

I only started in April so the idea of setting targets didn't occur. My season finishes in December no matter what anyone else tells me!

I have one last target, and that is to get down to a 20 to beat my good friend's record at the club of losing 7 strokes in a year. I'm starting to run out of competitions to do it in though! eek! I guess in a way, this encapsulates all my little 'mini targets'. I wno't achieve the above without achieving the in between ones...

I am still trying to lower my handicap (without much success), but strangely enough I am enjoying the game a lot more these days. We have continuous warm weather in the Caribbean, so I still have time in my favour.
