I would KILL TWICE to putt 33 times on 18 holes.
That would cut somewhere between 7 and 9 shots off my score.

    *sigh*

you say your having putting problems, i know that that can really hurt your game. have you ever tried a long putter, i changed to a broom-handled putter and never looked back, worth giving a try if you cant ever seem to get your putting to a good standard, i was always a poor putter till i changed just over 2 years ago.
      Hi Bill

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm happy to say that putting is the only part of my game that is normally good or better, it would help if my short game got me close enough for genuine 1 putt chances more often but mostly I'm reasonably confident - and (because my first "putt" is often a little chip from off green) until recently am rarely more than 32ppr

My home (pay & play) course greens have been deadly slow this year and this has caused me problems going to decent layouts where the speed of the green has killed me. I've also (perhaps trying to get some speed on the putts at home) become a bit wristy.

However - can't resist gettting another mention in - I got round Wentworth on Sunday in more or less regulation ppr so things are getting back I hope; a shame about the rest of my game though which was found a bit wanting

Ah remember I'm talking 33 putts plus off the fringe chips.

I have a theory that a realistic ppr target for high cappers who aren't getting on in regulation is about 30, i.e. just over 1.5 putts a hole.

When I'm chipping and putting well I've been down to 28 plus chips on a regular basis.

            hi
sounds good to me as Wentworth is no easy course to play.
you have the winter to work on your short game and come back next year better than ever.
            cheers

Neil, consistency - now that is something I am after. Love Rotella's books. Haven't read the putting one though.

I must admit though Neil, I play better when I am aggressive with the shot at hand. I do consider pin positions, hazards and so on.

Robin - gotta get the ball closer with the chip or pitch. Work harder on the short game.

Only practice 4 -6 feet putts. I've done this for sometime. It was reinforced a couple of weeks ago when I had a lesson. Coach believes in only practicing the short putts. Hw said, why practice the long ones - you're practicing to fail.

                Hey Robin.

One of the practice putting drills I've read recently involves finding a hole on the practice putting green and then laying the putter on the ground with the head in the hole, you mark out with tees 4-6 spots around the hole a putters length away and put a ball next to each tee peg and then putt each ball out in turn. You add pressure to the drill by having to make all 6 in one rotation before you walk off the green.

                Or something like that...

Re: Aaaargh the frustation of this game when you are rubbish

^^ Scraggs - yeah, Mickelson warms up with the same drill

^^ Nicole - Rotella says the same - praticing 15 foot putts is a waste of time. If it's pace of putt that needs to be practiced, the best drill is starting in the middle and putting to the edge of the green - ie; targetless. Otherwise, it's the 4 footers that should be practiced

                    Nicole / Scraggs / Dog

Agree with all that, I use a variation of Scraggs drill already and rarely practice holing much over 6' though I will putt long to the fringe to try an get some feel for pace.

Thing is apart from the issues I mentioned in my reply to Bill I've actually been neglecting my short game and putting practice to deal with some problems off the tee that needed sorting urgently but took me a while to fix, the boys will know how embarassing it is to sky one that lands on the ladies tee - especially the long walk along the fairway afterwards .

Any way I think I'm back on track with that so can get the practice balance sorted as well.
