    Re: Is it Just Me?!

Don’t fret Neil. Your predicament is just a symptom of your desire to make real and lasting improvement in your golf swing. I venture to say that you would be more satisfied with a round of good ball striking that incorporates your desired swing, no matter what the score, than a round in the 70's, "hacking" around the course. Many golfers are just the opposite. A lot of them are satisfied to play the shot they have for the day, for the whole day. Very difficult to make long term progress if you’re so quick to tolerate the old habits as soon as they rear their head on the course.

Press on. You’re obviously in this for the long haul and IMO, this is the best course of action for a young man. When you stop improving your swing, you have capped your long term potential. Yes, you can still improve scoring, but it will max out at a point limited by your swing. This is true at any level of play. Consider the course of action of Mr. Woods, in the last decade.

Perhaps you could look at it that way, ie, next time after hitting the poor shot focus on why you hit THAT bad shot in preparation for the next one.

Am I making any sense - I'm having a blonde moment.....
      Perfect sense blondie!

      Thanks!

        Thanks Kbp.

        Very encouraging words.

Went out and had 9 today. Wasn't bothered about the score. Just wanted to hit a few nice ones. I've been doing some indoor work on my grip, posture and takeaway but not hit any balls for 2 weeks.

It was all a bit shabby to start with, but like vp27519 says, (I presume he's a mechanoid??) the fact that I was trying to apply what I know to be the techniques I'm after helped to answer my questions when I hit a bad one.

By holes 8 and 9 I was smokin it.

Actually feels more like a cover drive when I get it right

Think about what you are saying.
Is it a particular swing you want, or a playing ability.
The goal in golf is always to hit the ball as little as possible.
Whatever lets you do this is the correct swing for you. (unless you are changing your swing under direct coaching to try and become pro)

            Hi Neil,
Kevin McDonald PGA here and Authorised 3skills instructor.
I would not think too much at all about a (swing) especially when you are on the golf course.
You should think more of how you wish to contact the ball and how you plan to get it around the course.
If you have any mechanical swing thoughts going on inside your mind this only serves to take away your focus on how you wish to strike the golf ball.
I would recommend you purchase the book 'Nail It' as I would indeed recommend every single golfer or budding golfer out there to do the same.
This book is for any ability of golfer and helps you to focus on hitting golf shots not thinking about golf swings.
It has helped my game tremendiously. I am free of all the thousands of swing thoughts that used to go on in my thoughts. My mind is totally uncluttered from all the mechanical swing limitations supposibly everyone has to adhere to. I now focus on simply hitting the ball to its intended target
I just need to practise my putting to finish the job off (as the arden boys know already)
I wish you all good golfing.
Keep it simple and you will really enjoy this wonderful game.

              Hi GreeBoman,

I'm a bit of a git when it comes to my own playing ability. I want my swing reliable enough so that I don't have to think about it.

To me, "reliable enough" is having it send the ball to the target 75% of the time (or within 10 yard circle of it).

I am regularly coached by a man who also coaches Simon Khan and Ben Barham. As for becoming a pro..................................

                Hi Kevin,

                Thanks for the reply.

Whilst I have seen that people on here are undoubtedly being helped by "Nail It", I can't justify buying the book. This isn't some blind ignorance or deep-rooted hate for anything with nails () but I am a firm believer in my current route and my current coach.

My current coach is the only coach that has ever got me hitting 170 yard 7 irons with a draw within 25 minutes of turning up. Hence he's the only person who has given me the sight of what I want to achieve. I've just gotta weed out those old habits. It'll happen.

It is my unwavering belief in my coach and his methods that is producing the results I am looking for. For the system to continue working, that belief must not faulter. Right now, I don't ever think it will because it feels so good and right. Don't ask me how. It's just like you know "she's the one".

I am not discounting purchasing the book in future if I suddenly have the urge, or my coach starts changing his mind. Much as I am not suggesting anyone else shouldn't buy it. If you haven't found something that works for you as often as you'd like, buy it.

                I'm not at that stage.

But thank you for the recommendation. It's appreciated.

May I remove my foot from my mouth to give my humblest apologies!

I could attempt to cover my blunder by claiming that it was a typo and I missed the 's' infront of "he's"............................but I didn't.

As a famous American once said............... "D'oh!"

The mechanoid reference was more to do with your chosen name on here rather than your input on the forum! Like C3PO, R2D2, seven of nine etc etc.

vp27519 sounds like a number under a barcode that may (or may not) be stamped on your neck at the base of your skull.

It just so happens that my girlfriend's a natural brunette that died her hair blonde just so her blonde moments became more genuine!
