  • Have you ever cracked a whip?

Reading through a few threads lately, I've seen lots of reference to cracking a whip.

Personally, I've never cracked one - so I find the analogy a little silly.

Have you cracked one? Or do I seem to be on crack?

It's not the analogy of actually performing the action of cracking a whip, it is the idea of what a whip being cracked represents in the swing...

        hi
i would say cracking a whip and fly fishing are closer than golfing and don't think cracking a whip or fly fishing have anything in common with golf as both are a wrist action and no body movement at all.

I guess, having never witnessed it live, it's still an alien analogy to me.

                Puts on serious head!

cracking the whip is a reference to the way the club approaches the ball with lag then is whipped through the ball at impact.

Re: Have you ever cracked a whip?

I have been told that the hands releasing when trying to crack the whip is the same as the hands releasing the clubhead through the impact zone. This was a pretty common analogy in the 1960s.

BTW, it is believed in some scientific circles the "cracking" sound of a bull whip is caused by the skinny end of the whip breaking the sound barrier, or 750 mph.
                    (i.e., sonic boom)

If true, we have a ways to go to make the clubhead exceed the speed of sound. GJS

                      Lowpost,

At last, I have been harping on about this now asking if anyone has the same feeling as me, if you have a slow practice swing pointing the butt of the club at the target for as long as possible, SK2 attacking from the inside.

I get a distinct flipping action, cracking a whip if the perfect way of describing it.....................thank you.

When I watch youtube, look for 'Swing Vision' and watch the tour players in super slow-mo, you note they all do the same, last minute they release, my son does it to but he says he doesn't feel anything so thats no help.

                      Crack that whip son.

                      Ian.

Now don't get me going on whips! I can remember when nice people lived round here, I would have them all thrashed within an inch of their lives. I blame the parents!

That could be my issue - I'm avoiding any flipping feeling like the plague - always looking for compression and no flip (as I was super flippy before, and when I'm not careful, it creeps back in and I immediately lose 1 to 1.5 clubs).
