I think game improvement clubs are ok. They help weak player enjoy the sun and keep them out of the woods. They can enjoy the game at a simple level. I still concider them hacks.

A golfer plays shots, sets up holes with distance and knows how far to come in from the desired landing areas. A golfer shapes shots and can hit a lob wedge well. A golfer puts time in to the short game and reveres putting as an art form. A golfer can make wedges around the green, sing. dance and make coffee if he desires. A golfer can hit a lob wedge off a cement pathway to a pin 50 yards and stick it.

To me this is the fun of the sport. The game can be played by anyone but to be a golf sportsman you have to practice!

    Just food for thought,

Well, I agree with most of what you say, but I don't think I'll ever regard putting as an art form!

And I do think that the new clubs enable straighter hitting and more distance for all players.

One more thought - isn't it time the ball was limited to reduce the distances being hit? Here in England we don't have room to make courses longer and longer - and we have to walk round them!

        marcutin,

I feel there should be a limit for pros on ball distance. It would bring back some classic courses that have out grown the present game. I'm a long hitter and have to play some courses from the very back of the tee boxes. Just so I hit the right landing areas.
