  • 3 Skill Golf Report

    HI everyone,

I was typing this on another thread and thought it a little unfair to keep highjacking other peoples, so I though I would share this with those who are interested.

I know you may not want to keep hearing me keep carping about this 3SKs book etc etc etc.

But I must say that everything in ' How I Play Golf' Tigers book about the golf swing can be related to 3SKs but far easier.

I cannot believe how much I have been BLOWN away with this concept, in a few short months it has completely changed my outlook to Golf, I am hitting the ball better than I have ever done, I haven't had a swing thought for months, infact we videoed my swing last week just on my mobile while having a knock and it looked a little shorter swing, compact, faster and very powerful.

Any part of the golf swing can be achieved by 3SKs, the downswing, impact position and follow though are all achieved by knowing how to put the clubface to the ball.

Before 3Sks at Arden this year I was working on a later hit, in my pre-shot during the swing with some success I must admit but mind cluttering, the problem I found which relates to Martin's thread when we start trying to hard to change we forget to hit the ball (always) whenever I tried a swing change I would always go through a period of poor ball striking.

Yet since 3Sks I haven't focused on any part of my swing at all not for a minute, partly due to the instant success, but also to give it a fair crack, personnally I must admit I have always been very technical and spent endless hours working on swing changes..............

Staying with the ball on the backswing, easy Skill 1 (If you don't you can't hit down on the ball SK1), The late hit is easily achievable by using skill 2 (To attack from inside to the outer most point you must have a late hit), Releasing the club through the ball, easy skill 3 ( to rotate though impact your body natually stays where it is and your arms extend).................combine all three and you have it.

Every part of modern day coaching can be achieved simply by applying one of the skills.

I have never looked forward to the new season more than I do now.

    Thank you

    Ian.

    Good stuff Ian.

As you know I have also been working on 3 skills but did not totally let myself to it for some time. I found that skill 1 improved my ball contact very quickly and gave some real results from the outset.

For around 12 months now my driving has dropped off, for so long it was the mainstay of my game, slowly that advantage seemed to slip away from me and I could not really figure it out, three drivers later my driving was still off form. I decided recently to concentrate driving solely on skill 2 and just swing the club around my body with focus only on the arc of the clubface back and through while driving the horizontal nail, no more thoughts of takeaway, wrist cock, lag, extension, release etc, I also made a small change with setting up the clubface more towards the toe at address. WOWEEEE!!!! I am driving the ball so well again, great ball flight, good powerful hits down the middle.

It works as long as you let it.

If I wasn't so committed to my coach, I'd seriously give this 3sk stuff a try.

Me too. I am fascinated by it. My irons have always been mediocre to say the least. I started hitting irons better than ever before in just a very short time. I am not into technicalities in terms much. So, I didn't even understand some of your lingo, like late strikes etc. But not necessary with 3sk I suppose.

              Whizz.

                Hi Whizz,

                www.3skillsgolf.co.uk

Not sure if they post out to Asia.

3 skills is a simple concept designed in my opinion to help people like me who are very technical, I like to do everything in life perfect or as close to it as possible, hence always to much on my mind to play to my best, I can safely say I know everything about the golf swing or so I thought until I stubbled onto the GTO golf day earlier this year, a guy (Kevin) explained his concept of simply focusing on whats important: Hitting the ball, not just this but hitting it in 3 different ways, basically, 1, hit down. 2, from the inside, 3 rotating the clubface......................you learn to do all three without any swing thoughts at all, you must let go and focus solely on the ball for it to work.
Showing off somewhat, he continued to show ever swing fault in the history of golf but still hit the ball perfect, even off his knees with a driver, when you think about it there are so many variations of the golf swing, including some very strange mannerisums, but they all do one thing, hit the ball exactly the same, I mean clubface to ball........3 skills.

The book in layman terms makes you think about hitting a nail into a wall, you don't focus on the swing you simply concentrate on hitting the nail, if you missed you wouldn't say "that was a bad swing" you would simply say I missed the nail, there is imagery in the book which places a nail through the ball at different angles with different clubs.

There are a few drills etc in there to help get you started, but the reason for this tread was a simple report on my findings and other guys who have purchased the book which costs £15.00, less than a lesson really.

I dropped two shots in a few months and I already played off single figures so its even harder to drop, we have about 3 months left of winter and I don't really need to work on it now, just look at the ball and do it, which isn't a swing thought.

For the record I am just one of the lads who attended the golf day and I have no connection whatsoever with this book or it's promotional team etc.

                Thanks

                Ian.

                  Re: 3 Skill Golf Report

all i can say is that every aspect of my game has improved since learning the 3 skills.
what with a busy workload and bad weather practice opportunities are rare at present but once the training regime is at full steam next spring i would reasonably expect to shave 6 stokes off my handicap

have to agree with ian on this one, no more complicated swing thoughts and nice consistent ball striking.
my game was always on the short side , especially with the longer irons & woods. now i have 15 yards to every iron & 20 yards to the woods.
only been using this new swing for 11 weeks & this time of the year it's too cold to get to the range on a regular basis , so i still have a way to go before i get proficient at this , but the results so far have been great.this is the first time in 8 years i actually feel like i can play this game , freely , consistently & enjoy the round ,without 'blowing up '@.

Does 3SK get into mental stuff at all? Or is it simply swing instruction?

                          Hi Lowpost,

You make a very good point as usual, the simple answer is NO, however one thing is for sure it does give you more confidence in your own ability, it's like going for a round and hitting it better than ever, your whole game gets better instantly.

I am sure in time this will wear off, but hopefully we all will be so much lower h/capp by then that we will be better players anyway, there is no doubt when things go bad you can struggle.

The tesy for me will be when things go bad can I keep the simple focus, I think so but can't speak for everyone.

                          Cheers

                          Ian.

                            Hi there everyone.
                            Kevin here.
Would just like to wish you all a great christmas and new year.
Hope your golf will be excellent in 2008.
Hi to all the Arden GTO boys.
We will have to play again when it warms up.
I have recently started using a wooden headed driver again. Hit it pretty much the same as all these modern day drivers but with a nicer feel
Enjoy your time over the festive season.
                            Peace,
                            Kevin McDonald 3sk pga

It does get into a lot of Imagery which is kind of mental. The whole teaching process is based on getting certain images of how the clubhead should travel and contact the ball, it also asks you to consider images of things like ball trajectory so that you do not try lifting the ball into the air. One section discusses how the right and left side of the brain work differently, how that can affect your golf and how 3 skills resolves the matter.

Go on Ben get a copy, tell you what, if you think it was not worth the money then I will personally refund you the costs.
