" Let's have some fun " that was the statement from one of my pals prior to teeing off for our last round of 2007. We decided to play from the tips, the course would play just over 7000 yards, a howling wind and mid day temperature in the low forties. The three guys in my group are a lot younger than I am and hit the ball a lot further but I was there to enjoy my day and I certainly did. I had the mindset before teeing off to play for bogeys on the tougher holes against the wind, I was two over after three holes, the fourth, a par 5 playing 560 yards into the wind. I hit driver, 3 wood then my # 3 hybrid from 160, a wee bit short but got down for my par. The 5th. was great, par 4, playing 448 yards, straight downwind, I hit a lovely draw ball and wedged in from about 135 made my par on on we went.
So this is what the pros would experience, it was another world indeed, my game plan went a bit astray on the 17th. a great par 3, OB left, steep bunkers and playing 232 yards into the teeth of the wind, in a bunker in two, left one in there and slid in a four foot breaking putt for a 6. In spite of the conditions it was fun, my score of 12 over 84 was second lowest, not bad at all considering, and the hot coffee and brandy in the clubhouse had us thawed out in no time. Golf is fun indeed !
