  • The return of Ms. Wie.

So here we go again, when Ms. Wie tees it up I'm sure she will get plenty of TV coverage regardless of whether she is putting for an eagle or tapping in for a triple to miss the cut by ten.
I'm posting my opinion only and leaving it up to debate ( if any member is really interested at all ). No doubt this kid has talent but I suspect at the best she will never be anything more than a journeyman ( woman ) LPGA player. Nike and other sponsors who have made millionaires out of her and her family must be chomping at the bit or perhaps shoving their respective heads up dark places.
There is a multitude of young LPGA players that would have been more deserving of such lucrative contracts. Prior to teeing off I hope she remembers to pack her " book of excuses " in her Nike bag. It riles me to no end when she was allowed to tee it up with the men, a bona-fide PGA player trying to earn a living has to sit out to make way for this girl, for what ??
The Ms. Wie hype is a farce, it will be front page news if she ever makes a cut. I wish her all the best, it's sad to watch a young girl, who in my opinion has been manipulated by family and others fail ( by a huge margin)
to live up to these individuals expectations. Well done Annika for challenging her when she withdrew citing wrist injury then headed to the next tour stop and straight to the practice tee.
I wonder what excuses we will hear this year ? " oh well it's too bad I can't continue, I made a wrong move with the swingsetter, I didn't hear the click and got it jammed in a place I can't mention, I'm just off now to see Doctor Leadbetter for an extraction ".
Again just my opinion, for God's sake girl find yourself a real coach like a Harmon or a Haney you will go nowhere with Leadbetter. That guy couldn't find the centre of a fairway if his life depended on it, his vision is badly impaired with dollar signs !!

    hi buteman
i do agree and think she has a long way to go to challenge the men even down at the bottom on the top 200 mens list. when you look at Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa who both have won some of the womens biggest tournaments but both don't think they can compete against the top pro men player you have to wonder about M Wie playing against the men when she cant beat the two top women golfers or even get close to them.
even Laura Davis said she could not compete against the top ranked men and she hits the ball miles.
    cheers

nike can afford to back a whole series horses, one is always going to romp home with the bucks.
in ms wie's case , the long hit and the even longer legs made her an ideal 'nike' propersistion.she may come good , depends how she can handle the extra pressure . as for playing against the men , never should have been allowed, but yet again ,money talked and the sport suffered.

That's the whole point, is it not Bill, at any level of golf the bottom line is to compete and if you know you are not competative DON'T PLAY !
I do appreciate this young girl has to hone her skills in competition and who knows perhaps in time she will be succesful.
Without a doubt she has seriously damaged her reputation ( which is sad at this early age ) by using her lame brain excuses which has annoyed to no length, not only her fans but her peers in the LPGA.
If she ever had the talent of Lorena or Annika and the personality of Ms. Davies ( my all time favourite lady golfer ) combined, then there definately would be a case for all the hype surrounding this kid. To say that the LPGA is highly competative these days is a huge understatement, look out ladies, there is a host of outstanding young golfers from Asia who are here or on the horizon. I'm getting the impression these kids are going to be a real dominant force in the LPGA tour for years to come.
The cameras can focus on Ms. Wie as she pounds out one of her drives, Laura pounds it out every bit as far but Laura can follow up with a game far superior to what Ms. Wie has, and no excuses from Ms. Davies of course.
        Cheers, Buteman.

like you say the talent in the LPGA is stronger now that it has ever been and there a dozen American girls who are at the top most weeks on the tour and like you say the high number of girls coming from Asia and they play some amazing golf, it like the mens tour and the number of far east and Asia players that are hitting form.
i think M Wie will find it very hard in the now much tougher LPGA tour and to even get in the top 20 will be a result.
Like you i like Laura Davis as she tells you as it is, if she plays bad she say, no excuses.
          cheers
