    Taylor Made R7 Draw Irons

    I am a 67 year old 21 handicapper and am considering replacing my Cleveland TA-5 irons because the graphite shafts are delaminating. Looking on Ebay I have found these Taylor Made iron sets for around $300 for steel shafts (another $100 or so for graphite). From what I read, it seems these clubs are pretty forgiving, and may be well-suited for a high handicap player.
    Anybody out there have any advice or observations?

    67 is one indicator, 21 cap is another.

    Have you ever been measured for driver or 5 iron swing speeds?

    What club do you pull from 150?


    Generally speaking you should be playing lightweight steel or graphite.

    Have you considered simply going to a clubmaker/clubfitter and having your current irons reshafted?

      LowPost, Thanks for the response. I have never had my swing speed measured, but from 150, I would use a 5 or 6 iron (hybrid).

      I haven't talked to a club fitter/maker, but I did ask in the pro shop about new shafts. They were talking $60-75 per shaft, plus grips, etc. Didn't sound like a very cost-effective solution. I live in a small town in NE Florida, and don't know of a good club fitter/maker in the area.

        Generally speaking, the pro's in the pro shop don't know much about equipment (other than the BS their rep tells them to reiterate).

        You could probably find a PCS'er who could get you into some pullouts for a relatively good price.

            A pullout is what your current shafts will be when you upgrade. They're pulled out of your current heads and new ones are put in. If they're pulled properly, they can be re-used in another set of irons. Provided they're not damaged, shafts can be re-used indefinitely.

            Generally speaking, you can save a few bucks using pullouts - as they're used.
