  • TaylorMade Burner Draw Driver

Went to the pro shop (more like shack) about a week and a half ago. Tried a couple of the demo clubs from last year they were selling after they re-shafted them. Tried the Ping G5 and a Nike Sumo2. Both were 9.5*. I hit both clubs fairly well, but not as well as I would of liked. I really struggle to get loft on my drives. So I passed up the used equipment.
2 day later I got my tax return....whoohooo.

I had tried a Burner driver of a friends last year and liked it. So I decided that would be the next club I tried. I had my driver speed clocked once last year at 105mph. I think I probably am slightly higher than that as my 5 iron speed was at 98mph.
So I was looking at a 10.5* with a stiff shaft. Unfortunately they didn't have one on hand, but they did have the draw model. So I thought I'd give it a try.

About 60 range balls and 9 holes later of using it with the tape on it, I decided to buy it. This club has performed better than I thought it would. I have a nice ball flight now with lots of carry. On avg I am hitting this club about 5-10 yards further than my great hits with my dad's Nike Sumo.

At my home course, all the trouble and out of bounds are on the right side. The draw model gives me the confidence to not worry about it. I can aim down the right hand side of the fairway and even if I hit it off center it stays straight on that line and goes for long ways. When I get a good swing on the ball it has a nice 15-20 yard draw that puts me dead center in the fairway.

I've had this club for about 10 days now. I've had quite a few drives over 300 yards, and I am yet to hit a ball perfectly on the screws. I have hit a lot very close to perfect, but none perfectly in the sweet spot and it's still out performing any other driver I've hit.

Sounds nice. After purchasing a SQ Sumo myself I'm wishing I would've gotten an R7 or Burner Draw. My natural shot is a slight fade, and I'm sure this club would've suited me better. But oh well.

    Congrats on the nice drives.

      Re: TaylorMade Burner Draw Driver

I have a love hate relationship with my Ping G5 driver.

Yesterday I was at a work outing and had a shot of my playing partners Taylormade Burner Draw driver. OMG!!!

I am now frantically trying to find a way to raise funds and hide the purchase from my wife!

I was consistently hitting around 260y which is pretty good for ickle me and like original poster I was swinging really freely with the confidence I was not gonna slice it.

Gimmie Gimmie, on the down side my nike golf shoe started flapping, Ive tried super glueing it with no success, so I think the driver will be on hold till I buy some new shoes .

If any poster has trouble getting height on there ball at drive, I recommend trying out the Burner HT model.

Hi, I read with interest this discussion and am wondering which is an easier and more forgiving driver to use - the R7 draw or the Burner draw.

Had a salesman who told me that the Burner Draw is just the newer model of the R7 Draw and there is no point paying the premium for the latest model when the difference is small.

Yet another saleman from a different shop told me that for a beginner, the R7 Draw is an easier club between the 2 cos of the lower swing speed.

And the 3rd salesman from another store told me that the burner Draw is way easier to handle cos of its lighter weight. (299g for the burner vs 312g for the R7)

Who is telling me the truth?

Doc, they're all telling you the truth. (Welcome to golf!)

Taylormade (aka 'driver of the month club') hasn't done anything particularily brilliant with the Burner - a longer, lighter shaft is about it.

OK, the 2nd salesrep is an idiot - SS has nothing to do with a club (that's a shaft and loft feature).

The 3rd rep is right - it's much easier to manipulate a lighter club, and spec for spec the Burner is about a swingweight point lighter than the R7.

But then again, a twig is easier to manipulate than a branch, too.

Gents, it's rare to find someone who knows their stuff in a big box store. Find a proper fitter who can get you gear for YOUR swing.
