  • what specs is my shaft?

    Hi, I just bgt a Taylormade R7 draw driver 460cc 10.5*.

I asked the shop if the shaft is a japanese spec shaft and they told me they were positive.

After I came home and tried the driver, I began to suspect that I got taken in by the sales guy who just wanted to make a quick sale.

Can anyone tell me if the shaft I got is a japanese specification?

The model number is "R7 Draw REAX 55R 10.5"

    Many thanks

    Hi,
Not sure what you mean by a "japanese spec shaft"? The shaft you've got is the standard shaft that is sold in the R7.

They are made by fujikura for Taylormade
When you talk about the model.. "R7 Draw REAX 55R 10.5"

10.5 is the (expected/approximate!!) loft of the clubhead Reax is the type of shaft, 55 is the weight of the shaft in grams and R is the flex (regular).

    hope this helps?!

I'm with prowlsta - do you know what's supposed to be different between normal and Jspec?

I would assume that Jspec would generally be shorter and lighter.

        Thanks for the replies.

Appreciate them greatly. I think the Japanese specs are abt 5 grams shorter.

How will the shaft weight affect the play and swing, if it does at all?

        cheers

at 5g? Hardly any noticable difference - less than 1 mph of clubhead speed, almost 1 swingweight point lighter. It's not a big enough difference to switch if you're hitting your current club well.

Re: what specs is my shaft?

Thanks for the reply. Now I guess I cant blame my poor play on the extra 5grams on the shaft.

However, I also think that the shaft is 1 inch longer. Will this extra length make it more difficult to play with?

It really pains me to think that I have bgt the wrong driver only 2 weeks into owning it and buying another one cos of this mistake is really making it into an expensive hobby.

I'd simply return it where you bought it and get a refund. Tell them that the sales rep assured you it was J spec; and you've done your homework and it's not.

The extra inch will make it tougher to control; and could make it tougher to hit consistently. Unless you're taller than 6'3" or have unusually short arms, 45" is likely too long.

I would take it back as lowpost suggests and see if the have one with a better shaft.

as an aside to this discussion, the reax is a real sack of **** IMHO, I bought an R7 a couple of years ago with a 65S reax on it and it was absolutely horse......had to replace it with an Aldila NV about 3 rounds later.

its time the major manufacturers started making shafts for the British market, higher kick points and lower launch, we dont all have the luxury of playing in flat calm conditions every week.

For a laugh I tried an FT-3 HT driver (about 16 degree loft) with the 55g reg aldila nvs....it was like hitting a 230 yard wedge shot....
