What do you think of the new callaway Diablo fairway woods? The pros seem to like them, and I am considering purchasing one, but I have not hit them. Any reviews?

Re: What do you think of the new Callaway Diablo Fairway Woods?
I think it was George Peper, who was a longtime editor for Golf Digest wrote an essay about the law which governs the purchase of new clubs, such as the newest hyped drivers. He admitted that he is a golf addict, and the law is supported by what he has observed and his many personal experiences.
The law somewhat like this. You buy an expensive big name driver or hybrid, based on the hype. You absolutely have to have it, notwithstanding you have to hide the credit card statement from the wife. Because all your buddies know what you paid for that club, you immediately practice more than ever to make sure you can justify the purchase in their eyes. You practice so much that you are able to make it perform to an acceptable degree. This is the honeymoon period. However, inevitably the odd misses start, and the lustre is wearing off, you see see a buddy's club is performing better, etc. Soon, the club is in the closet.
The point of this is that the new club was never that magical. It was good for the initial period only because you had to justify the purchase, and put in the extraordinary practice. If you put that practice into your previous driver. the results would have been about the same.

The simple reason why new clubs perform better is they
have a new feel. Your muscle memory is not yet old with them.
After using the "new" club for some length of time, you lose the feel.
The solution is also simple. Always have 2 sets of clubs for everything..
Driver, Putter & Irons+Hybrids. Alternate every 5 rounds of golf.
You will be surprised how much better you will play.
I have 4 putters, 2 drivers and 2 sets of Irons. The honeymoon
continues after 2 years with these.
I got a big chuckle out of the comment by poster above how one
tries to hide the credit card bill from the wife. I have set mine to
"no paper bills". So she never sees them hahahahahahahaha
Back to the subjectiablo fairway woods.....very nice club.
I have the 3 wood neutral bias, and I use it for tight fairways to
tee-off and get a guaranteed fade of the deck when I need one.

I know that golfer evolutions most notable innovation is the uniquely shaped human being which allowed genetic engineers to play with different weight locations when designing the body. The flexibility resulted in an optimal center of gravity (Beer Belly) for both the "draw" and "neutral" options, along with a higher moment of inertia (Fat Arses). There's no better anatomical design for golfers who want to overcome their natural swing flaws and hit the ball straight down the fairway. The design dubbed -- Dough Boy Technology (DBT)--also helps close the clubface at impact so golfers can better release the club with power.Last edited by BrianW; 09-12-2009, 10:26 PM.

Re: What do you think of the new Callaway Diablo Fairway Woods?
I played at an out of town resort and rented clubs there. I jokingly told the attendant that I wanted "the clubs that you hit straight with!" He gave me the Diablo "anti-draw" driver and 3W. I played so well that I bought them on the spot. I love 'em. My slice is gone, I drive 210-220 now and my 3W goes 200 or so, all relatively straight (if I don't rush my swing). I couldn't be happier.
