Can anyone give me some suggestions for a good set of irons for a higher handicap player?

Actually, it's a little hard to say my handicap as I think in the few years I've been playing, my game has been badly effected by the cheap and badly fitting irons I've owned! So I could be a good player without knowing it

I am probably going to American Golf tomorrow to have a custom fitting, but would like an idea of what I should be looking at...

I played with a friends Callaway X-18s and got on really well with them - far better than my own irons, which is why I've decided to upgrade!

I'm fairly athletic and have a fairly quick swing speed (around 90-100mph I think). I'm also quite tall at 6ft 2in, so I will need to get them adjusted for length + lie.

Oh, I would probably like to try and keep the cost down a bit, and would maybe consider a used set if that gets me more for my money...
