OK im in need of major help here only been playing a few months and have a set of cavity back irons that i started with, now i hit these irons pretty well mainly straight sometimes slight slice about 10 yards max. I dont hit them very far probably 150 with my 5i but accuracy is OK (obviously could be better). Down to my question i have been looking at different irons and seeing as i have Mizuno MP-Fli Hi 3 & 4 as i cant drive to save my life and hate hybrids i use the 3 iron off the tee and do OK max distance was 180 yards and straight (do have a few bad shots but thats only now and again) and MP-R wedges 52-56-60 (love these wedges i am accurate with these) so my first thought was mizuno irons so i know i will be flamed here but i saw an MP-57 6 iron on ebay for £4 so thought why not try it. It arrived today so i went to the range and hit the MP-57 alongside a Cleveland CG-Gold 6 iron and my existing 6 iron i hit the MP-57 as well as either the others (i was not expecting this but 75% of my shots went straight and as long as my CB irons, a handful of shots i hit went further and my mishits which were creeping to the toe but only 1 shot was outside the grooves they still only went 10 yards right and 120 yards)
I was happy but still in the back of my mind thinking people keep saying that a beginner shouldnt use these irons i decided to go to a local store and told the salesman there what i had found with the MP-57 and was told as expected that they wouldnt recommend the MP series to a beginner, he then showed me a set of MX 100 which i had been looking at and quite fancied i hit them in the net and i didnt hit them any better than i had just hit the MP-57 and the difference in feel was tremendous. I love the feel of the MP-57 and really want to buy them but will i be just making a quick decision and pay for it later, what would you recommend i was thinking get the MP-57 and use the 8-9-Pw to begin with and continue with my 5-6-7 CB irons. I am so confused
