  • Question about new driver and Shaft

I am looking to get a new driver, in the past I have always played a low loft 8.5 Driver with a low kick point shaft (Grafalloy blue prolaunch 65 grams stiff). But I am thinking about going totally opposite of this and trying something new.
I am looking at getting a high lofted head like 12* and putting in a High kick point shaft (Fujikara Rombax 8Z08 85 grams xstiff).

Has anyone tried this approach before, and if so how did it work for you. I am looking for something that rolls out after it hits and maybe goes a few yards fewer.

My only fear is 12* maybe to much, and was thinking maybe just 11 or 10.5 as well.

    Any help would be awesom...

You really need to compare with a launch monitor or on the range. But for what it's worth, when I used the 12* I found it launched the ball too high in the air. Fine if you were hitting down wind, but a killer if you were hitting into the wind. The ball tended to balloon up and drop short with very little roll. The 10.5* has a much better trajectory for me. But again, everyone's swing is different, so your experience may vary.

If a side-by-side comparison is can't be done where you live, another possibility is to to get a driver that allows some degree of adjustment, like the Taylormade R9. That way you could get a middle of the road 10.5* club and adjust it up or down a bit to suit you.

I went from an 8.5* to a 10*. It is a little higher but it gives me much better control and I haven't lost enough distance to notice.
